I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday

The Mars Red Mk1 is not necessarily a GTi - it could well be a Driver!
The one 3 back from it is not a GTi as the colour is Azure Blue Metallic, not Lhasa which was not available for the Series 1 GTi.
I often wonder if my '79 GTi is on that train as the report was pulished in 1979, the same year as mine was built. But with 3,800 built at Wolfsburg each day, it would only be a small possibility!
I like the pic of the shells all hanging in the marshalling yard, waiting to be called onto the GA line. Amazing finish to the paint, even back then with much of it being done by hand.

Am I seeing things????…tell me I am wrong….but do we have 5 imposters here…..they seem to have boots, the rear side windows seem different, the grill round the headlights and the wheel arch flares look different….
Those are Polo's/Derby's probably catching a ride on the Golf shipment.
