To me a rat has to be either cool and iconic (bug/splitty/hot rod/Mk1 etc)

or

Tatty but fast as flip! As in "I've spent all the money on runing gear and engine and I'll do the body when I get round to it!" like the original rat rods

Anything less then that and its just a shed your having a laugh with!
