Television Series - The Big Build 2011

Do you fancy yourself as a mechanic, welder, painter, electrician? Well if you DO then prove it!

There is a great opportunity for all you budding mechanics to show off what you can actually do with a fully equipped garage, a project car and lots of TV cameras to show off your work!

A television series, due to run in 2011 and is look for candidates with skills to build a fully functioning trackday car. Think "Big Brother meets Scrapheap Challenge" and you'll have an idea of the format of the programmes.

'The Big Build' is a LIVE 10-day broadcast of ten amateur mechanics locked away and left to complete the car BUT with cameras following their every nut and bolt, weld or wire.

The show will be a great place to showcase your skills, whatever they may be AND promote the club. Throughout the series I'm lead to believe that there will be ample opportunity to mention the club while carrying out your tasks.

10 mechanics are required. Although the programme will be pitched as a '10 day lock in', it may be that the filming will take place over consecutive weekends so your availability will be necessary for the whole filming period. Accommodation, food and fuel expenses will be covered. The location of the garage and filming ios bveing kept a closely guarded secret… I did ask!!

If you feel that you've got what it takes to get involved with the series please click

where there is a chance to enter your details and represent the club as well.

Further information can be obtained by emailing info@rubberduckmag.com

Have a read of the audition page and if you've got the minerals, GO FOR IT!!!!!

The club is already on the a forum partner for 'The Big Build' so lets have a stab at getting at least 1 person in to the programme. If you DO apply for an audition please give the club a BIG UP (it is acceptable to the magazine!) by saying that you heard of The Big Build on the Mk1 Golf Owners Club Forum.

If I was running that TV show I'd have this list of these people:-

Funk-star
Rubjohnny
JellyBelly
Adaptorman

They make ten mechanics/bodywork guys all day long.

Brilliant exposure for the club.  If someone from here was on it I'd tune in.  Can I ask:-

1. Do they get to chose a car to work on?
2. What happens to the car afterward?
3. Do they get to drive it?

In response to Spudfingers questions: you can check out the constantly updated FAQ section posted at the end of the audition blurb on The Big Build page. Most up to date posted below…

FAQ

1. Where is the location of The Big Build Garage? The precise location of the studio will be kept a closely guarded secret up until the day of filming. We can confirm that the location is in the Midlands.

2. Do we get to choose what type of car is built? The projects are set by the producers well in advance, although The Big Build welcomes wacky concepts for future project builds: please email your suggestions to info@rubberduckmag.com

3.  Will I need to source my own accommodation? No you will not. The Big Build will cover all of your accommodation needs, as well keep you fed and watered for the duration of filming.

4. Will we get to drive the car afterward?
Considering you have a clean and full driving licence then yes you will have ample opportunity to test the completed project vehicle.

5. What happens to the project car once it is finished? The car will be covered extensively throughout the pages of RubberDuckMagazine and showcased at as many car clubs and events around the UK as possible over the ensuing 12-months to promote the end product and The Big Build show. The completed project will be kept throughout the duration of the subsequent build filming, before being auctioned off to help guarantee the longevity of The Big Build show. First refusals will be granted to the build participants of that particular project.
