stupid oil light alarmy thingy

Sorry Guys its still doing my head in…… changed oil pressure thingys. but its still doing it…… i have now found if i have'nt got the stereo too loud and i catch it as soon as alarm sounds…..by changing down it stops for a bit. then maybe happen a couple more times then nothing for miles……its weird.
it only happens when car is hot and only when i slow down after thrashing it a bit, or with lots of stop starting driving round town.

any more suggestions….. or do i just pull the wire off and cure it once and for all ……lol

cheers

Do you know the pressure is actually OK?

How old is your pump? Maybe you need a new one.

Mine has good oil pressure (in car gauge) changed the senders and it still did it , thumping the top of the dashboard shut mine up , for abit. untill one day a friend told me how to disable the buzzer without affecting the oil light , with a drill bit (butchery i know but id gone bald tearing my hair out) This has to be the most annoying problem that a MK1 can suffer from it drove me nuts.

just picked up on this topic after being told to do a search on the forum for 'buzzer' keyword

my mk1 still occasionally has the oil buzzer go on for 1-4 mins depending. always goes off though and oil level appears fine

weird

You may have oil but not enough pressure! It needs to be checked before you dismiss the electrics.

Get the pressure checked pronto.

New pump ?30-50, engine rebuild ?500-1000.

No brainer really…….

The oil pump could be blocked with sump gasket crud if someone has put too much on in the past. Get it looked at and cleaned out before you start hacking things about.

After mine had been done the buzzer problem was solved for good (up to now that is!!)

i have just sorted this very problem. i went through trying a different set of clocks, cleaning the rocker cover oil breather, dismantling and cleaning the oil pump/ gauze, new oil pressure switches, and then finally the oil filter. after all that it was a dodgy oil filter… like everyone else says though, check the oil pressure, this'll give a good indication of which direction to go in.

ok cool - will check oil pump methinks

how can i get pressure checked if it only does it occasionally...... car is running perfectly and sounds great. till this stupid thing starts........ did i mention this never happened till i had the head gasket changed.

it's worth checking the pressure even if it is intermitant… pressure switch/buzzer may not activate until it reaches high/low pressure, which ever it might be, using a pressure gauge should help route the problem. i just used a home made one, basically a pressure gauge attached to a hose,,, a friend of mine had already brazed on an old pressure switch to the other end of the hose. i checked pressure at both switch points…one on the head at the flywheel end and the other on top of the oil filter housing. am sure a helpful garage will do it for you if you don't have your own gauge…

think we "may" have got to the bottom of the problem……. hydrolic tappits (sorry i can't spell technical stuff) fitted and mechanic thinks it might be a problem of sludge in the thingy. so thursday night the sump is coming off to clear the sludge out and give it an oil change………… Please everyone keep fingers crossed for me

It is best to fit the later hydraulic tappet oil pump also as the mechanical one is not quiteup to the job.
