Sportline?

Having reluctantly advertised my beloved Golf GTI cabrio on Ebay over the weekend, another Mk 1 Owners Club member was kind enough to email me and suggest I was in possession of a far rarer VW that I realised, and it might well be a Sportline (I always knew it was special)! I am not very knowledgeable about the different models and as it is an import it may be slightly different to the 180 Sportlines that came into the UK (I have done some homework now) - for instance it doesn't have a power hood, but does have power steering. It does have the Karmann body kit, Recaro interior and BBS alloys that I believe were standard.

Does anyone have any surefire ways of identifying it? I would really appreciate some help.

  i have an old article that states :
The Sportline had , electric hood , 15"bbs wheels , flash red paint [yea thats what it says], karmen body kit , recaro interior including red on the door cards and sport line decals by the back wheel . Maybe yours is but at some time the hood has been changed ?  Power steering must be an after fit as it was never fitted to European spec cars but was to American vehicles , is the power steering electric or driven via a pump from the engine ? Nice to see some pics or the link on Ebay …..
