SOUTH AFRICAN GTI

Hi,

Just wanted to share a chance encounter with a beautiful South African built mk1 GTI..

Today, as i was leaving my local homebase store… i looked back to see a clean looking silver mk1 GTI pull up. Shouting out to guy "NICE CAR, is it a campaign?" he told me he'd brought it over from south africa where he had bought it brand new in 1984!!!

I just had to have a closer look, it was in stunning condition….. interior looked brand new… altough not the usual GTI interior, seats, doorcards more like a GX… oh and it was 5 door! MINT!!!

He told me his daughter and him only drive it sometimes and otherwise sits in the garage. Its only covered 31000 Kms, which is less than 28000 miles??

Just thought id share this sighting with u, this car must be really rare, oh and he's got all the original handbooks and service schedule from new!

Felt well chuffed! the guy was really nice and was  happy  for me to sit and look around it.

I told him what an amazing little car he's got and gave him this site address…. hopefully he'l be a member soon and post some info and pics…. he was tellin me he's got a problem with the MFA, where the temp mode doesnt work… told him, come to the site… theres definately gonna be someone thatl help!  

Anyway, sorry for such a long post… seeing the car made my day!! and i just had to share it with others who'd understand my excitement!! Didnt think id ever see such a low mileage Mk1 Minter even tho it is south african!
