sorry guys... im back tho :) an on bmx :P

Sooo…. after my little accident… i kinda lost heart…

sorry to all the regular people on here, my commitment has been rather slack the past few months.
with a mix of moving, loosing heart and gaining yet more jobs iv found it hard to do alot of the things i love.
I did start riding BMX again tho :D

The story goes a little like this so far :)

After the golf was kiled by a volvo, i got offered crap money for it and declind the offer.. which made aviva angry..

So now there pinning all the blame on me and putting me 100% at fault… bad news?? yeah…

BUT WAIT! that could actually be good news!.. (well bad news for my exess AND no claims.. BUT  not for poor golfy sat on the drive!)

As im 3rd party only, my insurance wont come to see my car to assess it if its all my fault. so it wont be written off as a cat 'B'…

Guess who's gonna get his little red 1.1c back on the road over winter!! got someone to jig it for me, im gonna need a small list of parts but it will get there :)

anyone got these parts rattling around for cheap?

all passenger side:
- inner wing
- outer wing
- headlight

- windscreen
- front panel
- grille

i did put the key in the ignition two days ago… i never disconnected the battery… turned the key and it sprung into life! started with no choke and only a little throttle… i almost cried  :redfaced:

That fiat punto i bought off a friend on the forum lasted well for what was wrong with it but sadly it blew the head gasket on the way home from a gig the other night so i currently have a car graveyard on my drive.

im thinking ebay the fiat, spares or repairs for £250, then add another £100 to the total and try find all the bits i need for golfy…

For the people who clicked on this thread for the BMX part of the title… heres my current whip :)

its a wethepeople addict frame. but i got on it with the spray cans an now its green… (didnt like the pink :P)

so yeah. heres an update. and sorry again for going missing for so long :)

How come the insurance "changed their mind" when you declined their first offer, doesn't make sense to me?

Can you rebuild a Cat B Mk1 Golf and get it reregistered legally? For £350?

lol i dunno. i phoned them today and apparently they have no records of the offer… and as i have nothing in writing i cant really fight it… im gonna have a chat with my sister tonight, she works in insurance, an my insurer and see what the fudge is goin on really..

as for the car, its got a slightly twisted chassis leg, as no one has physically stamped the car as a cat 'b' 'c' or whatever, its still repairable. as it hasnt been branded as not road worthy. if you know what i meen..

ill still chuck it through a test once its done, just to be safe. and i wont be buying cheep tyres again i can tell ya :P

and probs not for 350.. but i weld, my mate will get it on his jig and all i need is a wing an stuff…

then ill finally finish my respray.. :P the windscreens gonna cost the most, but if it takes me all winter to get the bits i need i dont mind. ill take my time. do it right and see everyone in the summer :P

Good to hear you have a plan mate

i cant believe Aviva are mucking you around like that, if the other guys / aviva accepted liability on his behalf and then you turning down there first offer means that they are saying you are now at blame, then thats not right , and you should put the pressure on and make em back down.

did my guy come back to you in the end?

with regards to the windscreen get everything else done, then drive up the road and say a rock cracked it and pay the £50.00 to get a new one ;-). Just make sure you policy has windscreen cover ha ha

sad to hear the little italian beast has given up the ghost :-(, i did notice when you booted it away when we went to see that ratty cab it was kicking out some white smoke …

keep us updated mate, and we will have to catch up soon

Threaten them with the ombubsman, then if they still wont play ball contact them(ombudsman) and make a complaint. It then becomes their responsibility to come to a fair conclusion on the matter.

Insurance companies are almost always going to d1ck you around with a claim, just make sure you are in it for the long haul. Took me 6 months to get a satisfactory result from my claim.

hmm fair point. :)

6 months is a long time for an old golf to be sat on the drive tho :/ lol

Nice one Jamie… I'm glad the threat of me cannibalizing it has kick started you into sorting it out! it was me who was wanting to buy bits off of you… Still no worries I would much rather see it brought back to life. Good on ya!

Good to hear you're still knocking around dude!  Hope you get the little beast fixed in time for the summer!

You should try and get along to our last meet this Wednesday (or Sunday) evening.  I'll pick you up if it's too far to cycle?

In your original post you mentioned Cat B - have you had it properly inspected and did they say or suggest its sufficiently damaged to be Cat B?

Nice BMX…

Wish I could justify a new whip like that, but I'm fast approaching 35, and don't think the wife would be too pleased!

Saying that, my eldest son is nearly 6. another couple of years and he could be on a full size BMX…

Are 40yr old BMX'ing dads cool…???

well it was weird see, cos on the phone he said it was a cat 'b' after giving an assessment (which now apparently doesnt exsist on avivas system) BUT he then offered for me to buy it back.. now i was under the impression that only a dealer can buy it as they need to have a brakers licence? am i wrong?

and if the assessment no longer seems to exist on there system. none was properly submitted.
the car wasnt toed away and the police let me leave it on he side of the road so not ons much wiser yet.. if you get wt i mean?

Cat B means "for spares only - not to be repaired and returned to the road" or something like that so they could have offered you the car back as spares, etc.

Legally I believe its possible to register a Cat B back onto the road but I think there's an additional check made somewhere. Would definitely be uneconomic though.

If they're completely lost the assessment then they'd need to revisit and re-do it. If they won't come out to look at it now, why did they come out in the first place?

apparently so… although, i wasnt around, the mother was in. but none of us got anything in writing. i think ill be seeing how this pans out.

yeah isnt the test summat like a tuv or something?

i dunno, but i know what you mean. either way, its not getting towed away for scrap i can assure you :)

be it parts or repair. ill have anther golf for summer :)

You won't necessarily get anything in writing. If you're third party but the Volvo's insurance is fully comp, then if they pay out they're the ones stumping up the cash, so they'd be the ones interested in the assessment, not your insurer. So even though its your car, its nothing to do with you.

TuV is the German equivalent of the UK MoT, nothing to do with this kind of thing. I think its some kind of test over & above the VIC??? Unsure.
