Something to compare against....

Restoration comes up on here a lot and thought that some guys might be intersted to see what Audi Driver spent on their MK1 way back in September 1992. Interesting reading, especially the car being only ?1000 !! Enjoy

They are - in a way. They were taken over by someone who was taken over by GSF, I think?

yes it was all split up. i think they more or less sold thier stock/suppliers on. they were an excellent company to deal with. had some great stuff too.

I've had bits from GSF that still had Autocavan part no. stickers on the packs. Was a while ago now though. I remember Autocavan well. I've got lower strut brace, 'superbrake' linkage kit, weighted gear linkage, stainless exhaust and stainless filler neck from them in the garage !
I've got a few copies of that magazine featuring 'Project Gti'. Makes for interesting reading now.

While moving house recently I found the folder of receipts from my resto of last year. When I was doing it I thought I'd stuff them in there, and count them one rainy day.

So, I counted them all up, and it only came to ?1k, almost half of which went on new suspension bits! I was really surprised, as I thought it'd be more like ?2k easily.

My car still looks a little ropey, but it does go well and still makes me  , so I considered it ?1k well spent.

The next one will be dearer I'm sure, but it'll be faster too 8)

autocavan were taken over by a company called andys spares who dealt in french parts who in turn a couple of years later were taken over by gsf but in all the takeovers it lost the independence and ability to supply performance parts and one off parts (off the shelf stack em high and sell em cheap)
