Somebody pulled out in front of me today :(

So I was driving along a road today, my side of the road was nice and clear, doing about 20mph, other side of the road has slow moving traffic when all of a sudden some lunatic in a volvo s60 pulls out right in front of me at a snails pace…. I press the brakes and slow down and steer to the left to try to avoid him without mounting the pavement and catch him in the back because of his stupid maneuver …. Smashed headlight, bumper hanging, crumpled wing, cracked grill and a broken heart  :cry:   

Got home and phoned up insurance and told them to hop onto google maps so I can show them what happened. Guy on the phone was decent and I explained to him in black and white what happened and he said the other driver is in fault, and they have booked me into a garage to get an estimate.

He said they might write it off because its old! But they cant do that to her! Luckily my dad's friends owns a body shop which he has been using since before I was born so hopefully they will be able to salvage it!

I'm so furious! Was going to fit my weber carb on tomorrow as well…

did you manage to get him to accept liability or anything at side of road and write it down?

Dont wana sound negative but in my experience, especially as you sort of hit him from rear, his insurance company may try and play proper hard ball with you.

Also be aware with yours as they maybe all fine now, but if they cannot claim against his dont be shocked to see claim against your record when you go to renew next year.

In my experience for friends (i have been lucky so far "touch wood") if you feel strongly it obvious he was at fault then a no liability claims company can work well and argue it out for you to get you a decent settlement figure for your car.

I hope they dont write it off, but remember if its only CatD or C i think then you should be able to get a payout, buy car back for a small % of the payout they give you and get your dads friends body shop to sort

good luck with it, hope all gets sorted in your favour, I used to see this kind of thing all the time, I used to drive a bus in Rotherham/Sheffield and the amount of muppets that pull out on you is crazy, like you say snail pace too, had one the other day too, halfwit in a punto, pulls out on me drives slow then last minute indicate, hard brake and pull over, I found the urge to show him the poorly on my middle finger
