So do I buy it?

I have been to see a 1992 Alpine White clipper today, like new interior has had some paint work done at some point but very good. Lots of history, no rust what so ever, immaculate snowflakes with new Yokohama's. Think I can get it for £2000. Anyone's thoughts would be welcome

Have you driven it?

Yes very tight, cambelt 1500 miles ago. Only down side it has a pierburg carb, but is working as it should. Filler neck done and serviced 6 months ago and 115K miles. Best out of the 5 I have looked at in the last 2 weeks.

If you're happy with the performance of a Clipper, then buy it because it sounds like a good car at a good price. The only reason I say to check, is that there's an awful lot of posts on here similar to "I've just bought a clipper and I want to increase its performance…." They're fine as they are, but there's the GTI if you want to go faster.

Paul its just a toy so not bothered about speed

In defense of the clipper, ours goes quite well even with the pierburg carb which is working good with no problems. It isn't a slouch and can easily reach the dizzy heights of the speed limits. Get the car that makes you smile bro

Hood,
What state is the hood in? The headliner and the centre section?
Has it any rips or holes, or cracking if it's vinyl. Does it leak? A trip through the car wash would soon show up any leaks on a vynil, or get an hose pipe on it if it's cloth top.
A good top is just as important as having no rust or a good engine.
Put it this way would you buy a house with a leaky roof? Bit over reaching there, but you get the point.
There is also the buyers guide on here to give you an idea.

As Chortle said above for a 1992 with that mileage for around 2K i would be looking for the roof to be in good nick and not have to think about spending 300-500 on a new roof any time soon.

What is the interior like, is is the later style, blacky/blue colour or grey with diagonal dashes in it.

Is roof and windows electric?

If all the above is sweet, with your description and the fact it has the filler neck done, cambelt etc, i think it dosnt sound like a bad price, have a good look round though as there has even been some nice special edition cabby such as the rivage and sportline going for around £2500 lately !

have you got a pic you can put up ?

Also check the for sale section on here, funk star posted about a nice sounding cabby he had for sale a few days ago.

I looked at 10-15 then came across my 1992 white clipper it was pritty much same as you have described this one, and with the later interior and electric roof i snapped it up :-)

never looked back :-)

A 1992 clipper should come with electric windows and power hood as standard. See this link http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=101994 for me info on spec.
