serviceing my cab

i have just been told, that there are 3 ypes of engine fitted to my car (1991 gti cab).  is there any1 that could tell me what type mine is (or how best to find out).

Photographs and engine numbers might help us identify it.  You'll probably find most service parts interchangable between the different engines.
