I would have though it would have fetched a little more…

There seem to be an awful lot of these with Webasto roofs popping up. Must be due to the guy who advertised one recently saying it must be the only gti left with one of these roofs…LOL!

I was watching that motor too - seemed very cheap for such an original car.  I guess that sunroof probably put people off but really it would save you from suffereing the dreaded Mars red faded roof saga…

I have found a great solution to that problem - Keep it garaged! Really it works

Ah - that would have been easier - my solution involved cutting paste, T-Cut, loads of elbow grease, bucket loads of Autoglym Super Resin Polosh and a "power buffer".

I did have my Mk1 garaged last winter but the flippin' tin roof wasn;t water tight…

Wouldn't touch it with someone elses bargepole with because of sunroof.

How is that "no mods"

I would say he got an above average price for it.

Loads of non original points about it, wheels, steering wheel, front grill.

Let's not get to excited about these things, i appreciate that things are worth what people are prepared to pay but some people seem a little to ready to part with the old hard earned.

hmm. maybe I misgudged (spelling??  :? ) the value,  I didn't even notice the sunroof   , never seen one of those before and too be honest I'm not too keen on it.

still a very tidy example for the mileage!

The sunroofs were dealer fit though so not a complete aftermarket botch...

And let's not forget the "unseens"

On any 25 year old car with 10 owners they'll be loads of little surprises which may only be discovered months later!

Well I don't think it was too bad an example compared to some of the trash you see.  For the sake of a set of rough cast alloys and a "Wolfsburg" 3-spoke wheel you would have a very nice motor (considering its a Series 1).

I have seen far worse than that motor advertised far more optomistically.

Any modded car is not going to be worth as much as a standard one unless the mods are either easily reversible or it is a full on jobbie.

Walk away from the sunroof!

Sunroof wiped off a lot of the value for sure. The rest would have been doable. Funny isn't it. Somebody paid a few hundred to have that sunroof installed, and now, years down the line it's costing the current owners thousands!

We looked at a Fiat Strada Abarth 130TC in rosso red years ago but my dad walked away because it had a webasto roof.  I guess we live in the wrong country for them!

Wouldn't be too much work to cut the roof off and replace it with a non-sunroof roof  :? .. a weekend job

Honestly - that roof wouldn't put me off - particularly at that price but you don't want to get into doing roof swaps (after having done one on a Delta)

Saying that - for more money - I'd go for one without the canvas top…

I guessed that it must have been the roof that put people off but I had a full webasto on a Mini British Open Classic.

http://members.lycos.co.uk/openclassic/Gallery/Andrea___Andy/andrea___andy.html

It was factory fit original as limited edition which I guess helped but we (wife, now ex and kids ) LOVED it. Was a real hoot to drive with the roof back and never ever leaked!

You can't really see the roof well in the pics - but it was a corker of a car - and sold to Elton Johns' bass guitarist!!

Well, up side is that the next car to be purchased was the Campaign! 8)

I think they are quite saught after on Minis but my tin top Mini isn't excatly water tight so I guess its less of an issue on a Mini 'coz its going to leak anyway!!
