Scirocco Vs Golf

Ok, this may have been covered elsewhere but I own a Mk.1 Scirocco, am looking to buy a Mk.1 Golf/Caddy. I know this is a Golf-only site, but: which one is the coolest car.. Golf or Scirocco? Me, I love them both but if I had to pick one.... :dontknow:

Cooler or better - 2 different things.

One could say the Golf was a lot cheaper (from new), better built and was a better all round product (rear passenger space, etc) but not as pretty as the coupe design.

I'm in the lucky position of having both. They're similar but not the same. The Scirocco feels sportier and handles better (same ride quality) because its lower bodystyle gives it a lower centre of gravity. Its a tiny bit lighter too, so performance is better. The driving position is different (seats are lower) and the seat is height adjustable, so long as you can adjust the seat to a nice position in both (I'm not too tall, so have no problems) then its the same in this respect - but if you're taller the scirocco might be better because of the height adjustment.

In terms of practicality - the boot is ever so slightly better on the Scirocco with the seats up, but worse with the seats down (they fold in a different way). Rear seat room is better in the Golf hatchback, prob same as convertible.

In terms of exclusivity, getting looks off other motorists, etc then the Scirocco is definitely better. Apparently there's only around 400 or so left.

If you're considering a non-perfect model, then the Sciroccos will corrode more, panels are much harder to get and there's some little parts (eg gear linkage bits, window winder regulators, trim) which are much harder to come across. So bodywork will be harder to address. Mechanically they're pretty much the same to work on.
