Sad Loss

I am new here.  I do not tend to show my cars but wish to share my loss.

My Jersey sourced 1983 MK1 Golf GTI was burnt during a house fire last week.  The car was pristine and had 73,000 miles on the clock with fsh.

I bought the car 18 months ago and gave it new boots, new cambelt, full service, new mot, new shocks and some minor paint.

It drove very very well and the body had never been damaged.

The car is 60% gone but alot of items can be used.

Anyone who wants the car can take it for free as I want these bits to be used and not crushed.  The engine area is melted but the block et al can be used.

I will have to talk to the insurance co first.

If you want pics (before and after fire) I am on mathammondifa@tiscali.co.uk

As you can tell I am gutted, but my wife and kids got out safley and well a car (even this one sad as it may be) is a car….

Hi Mat

Really sorry to hear of your loss, you must be gutted - even though it's just a car!

Cheers

gutted for you Mat, nothing worse than a house fire. But the main thing is your Wife and kids are fine and so are you.

The car is replaceable at least, although I would feel the same if I went thru this.

What might help is if you could perhaps put up a post of where you are in the country so you dont; get bombarded with pm's from people who then say your too far away to help.

Chin up Mat- could have been a lot lot worse..

Sad Loss

Matt,

Am gutted for you mate, nothing worse than losing something like that. I wouldn't know what to do if anything happened to either of my 2 Mk1's, I had a car stolen once that I'd spent the year restoring on a student budget and that was bad enough…..

Wouldn't mind seeing some pics of before and after and dependant on location, might be interested in taking it off you, of not too late.

Can you please email me some pics to d.buxton@sir-robert-mcalpine.com and let me know where the car currently is.

Cheers,

Dave
