Quick please help!!!!!!!!

Just seen this on Ebay and was wondering if:
1. would this be suitable for a mk1 conversion?
2. what over major parts do i need for the conversion i.e mounts etc…?
3. How much work is involved in the conversion?
4. How long would it take to get it fitted and running?
and 5. Is it worth the effort??

Please help quick because theres not much time left.

Cheers
Joe

Well, you will need gearbox, ECU…
Not sure what driveshaft you will have to use or hubs etc.

Not an easy conversion…

really not suited to the mk1, mk2s cope better. alot work involved in making it go as it should and look tidy, and of course it weighs a fair ol' bit so handling is effected. having said that it went for cheep enough and theres 174bhp straight out of the box before you start having to tune it.  :dontknow:

Tuning them is not easy though, they need mega bucks spent to get good power gains…

HI GTi_Joe a bit off topic is there still a guy in Blackburn who sells VW parts and also breaks them.

Bought some stuff from him about 4 years ago,he also had full engines.

You ideally need a donor car, because you need engine, box, some kind of hydraulic clutch, ECU, possibly instrument panel, and different engine mounts welded onto the engine bay of your own car. If you're serious about a VR6 conversion, this thread from the Caddy forum is well worth a read.

Man that caddy is awesome :)

Still don't think a VR6 is a good idea in a mk1 though - even in a mk2 they're too heavy really and make the handling poor…

Stick with a 1.8 or 2 litre 4 pot IMHO

that is very true. After an exhaust and a chip things get very expensive :?

Thanks for the advice guys, the engine went pretty cheap though, i decided not to bid.
Think im gonna go down the 1.8/2.0 16v route with some twin 40/45s. recently found a cracking base car, silver 1.6 gti, looks and checks out pretty straight. ive also won some Porsche D90s and some coilovers (avo) so its adding up to be quite a good base car really. so any advise on engines for sale at a decent price that have not been raped! and advise on the 40/45s and setting them up is welcomed.

Cheers guys

This is a good choice…
A 2.0L 16v on 45's could see you pushing 180BHP with a bit of work. In a Mk1, this is extremely quick!

Am i right in thinking that the smaller the engine size the smaller the webbers used. ie. 1.6 8v should use twin 38-40s and 1.8/2.0s should be running twin 40-45s?????? :dontknow:

Sorry if this is a stupid question but im a bit of a novice.

Cheers.

Its interesting to follow the American guy's thread on his VR6 install, and the comments from others. In particular, people seem to agree that its more fun than 1.8T, G60 or any other 4 cylinder conversion because it brings on the torque so low down in the rev range.

Hopefully the little video has been uploaded okay, this will give you an idea of half the appeal of the VR6 conversion - that 6 cylinder noise!!!
