quick mk1's

Anyone on here have a 200 odd bhp mk1 who can tell me what the performance is like ie. done 1/4 mile sprints or what sort of cars they are on a par with on the road?

Just curious, cheers.

Mines Crap and slow as it has a slipping clutch and nowhere near that power…lol

Thanks for replies. Am interested as I should have a g60 unit installed with over 200bhp next year, full blend charger with ported head/cam/pulley/chip (& diff). Power to weight should be good with that so any idea of qtr mile times would be great.

what does "and diff" mean?

did mk3 have diff option?

I just thought i would explain the differential workings when going around a corner. It allows the inside wheel to rotate slower than the outside else the car would  just want to go in a straight line. Very hard to steer. A normall diff with one driving wheel not on the ground would put all the power to the lifted wheel, no power to the only driving wheel left. This happens with the more power you have so hence the need for a limited slip diff like a Quiffe ( Quaife )

A mk1 is lighter than a mk3 so would require a diff change sooner than a Mk3 with the same power.

Track and race cars tend to be driven harder so a driving wheel in the air happens more often so making a llimited slip diff nessearcy to get the power down and keep moving at a high speed.

The diff is after the final drive on the gearbox and is where your drive shafts are connected. As the Golf is front wheel drive its part of the gearbox, if it was a rear wheel drive car it would be part of the back axle. eg BMW, MG Midget etc

I think I explained that in simple terms 8O

My G60 conversion ran a 14.1 at the pod if thats any help, not fitted a diff yet im asking santa nicely this year. She produces around the 190bhp at flywheel equates to about 160bhp at the wheels if i  remember right but its the torque you really want !

Andy77 - good time, do you think a diff would have made any difference your time?
