Quarter bumpers on a mk1??

Just toying with the idea of doing something different when I get this other Mk1… been thinking

Anyone remember the chrome quarter bumpers on the Mk1 Escort (think it was only the Mexico that had them), I think they could look quiet good on the front of a mk1 with a little tampering

views everyone?.. would be a simple 'mod' that unbolts without body modification!

anyone good with photoshop fancy having a go at creating it? or has it been done before?

OR more to the point, am I completely losing the plot?

that sound like a cool idea . and it would keep the car retro

A VW Golf leak oil dont be silly it's just marking its territory!!!

Hmm… not sure about that one mate…

I think the rounded shape of the bumps wouldn't suit the boxy Mk1 too well. Plus you would have to have the same shape on the back…
If you were to make some up out of a squarer section stainless they may look better - possibly be cheaper than buying those corner pieces too as I bet they fetch good money!!!!

Would be cool , what about a sectioned standard bumper then from the side the car would look stock ? . Toyed with idea of this myself because im struggling to find a place for my oil cooler but i wanted the car to look standard (ish) .

I see what your saying, a little too round for the Golf.. was thinking of using a full length bumper for the rear.. I'll see if I can find something less round

not very good with paintshop but gives you an idea, not sure where the license plate or indicators would go but I quiet like it

Use one of those sticky number plates you used to see ,put it on the lower valence (great for avoiding speed camera vans) , and then the air cooled trick -putting the indicators in the headlamps (or bike indicators) . think they do look a bit too round though .

Not 100% sure here, but I think the sticky numberplates are now illegal. I know you can't get them made up anywhere any more, at least not when I tried a few months back anyway.

anyone know any different??

Indicators would be easy, could use the items off a mini or similar and mount almost anywhere.

surely you must be able to get the sticky License plates still?? what if you had an original Jag E-Type and needed one made up! even so I could make up a bracket that sits lower and close to the bodywork

I think a bit more square would look better, will have to play around with the idea and see what happens

don't want to do anything I won't be able to correct though!

Phill - F**d parts on a mk1 :naughty: . Think you can still get number plate brackets new so you could modify one of those.

ManicGTI did a similar thing with his GTI , although I wouldn't undertake the canine modification… although thats worth thinking about… front of car will effectively has no protection against errant animals, walls etc

 Yeah I know, wouldn't have actually used the F**d part but they're what gave me the idea

would probably look better on a nice Pearl White front end too

lol

I'm all for random modifications, which don't modify the body of course, reversable and all that

have very some random ideas in my head at the moment.

Go for it!  What with metal bumpers being so rare/expensive its a good idea to be looking at other similar (and before) generation cars for inspiration!

tbh I wanted flat round indicators for mine, rather than pointy ones. My dads mk2 Jaguar has perfect ones, round, flat, chrome edging etc, but too expensive I imagine.

I always thought a problem with having indicators in main lights is they arent very clear?, esp at dusk kinda times.

oh and no, I dont recommend the dog mod, its not eco friendly, and the curves spoil the straigh lines of the car. :|
