Prospective buyer question
November last year I bought a Peugeot 205 CTi from eBay. 1 years MOT, no road tax, no V5. Mint condition hood, tatty interior, reasonable bodywork. I won the auction as the only bidder for ?410. Over winter and spring I worked on the interior and replaced a few of the worn parts and managed to get her to near mint condition, except for a door dent and a badly sprayed panel. I have just sold the car ?950 and enjoyed most of the summer driving around in her.
NOW, could I pick up a Mk1 cab (GTi or Clipper) in the same condition for less than ?500 in the winter time, i.e. when they're less desirable?
The 205 as it is now, if anyone is interested.
Thanks
-Wayne

Have a read of our cabriolet buying guide - everything you'll ever need to know

Thanks, I have now (and what a very good guide it is too btw ), but I still don't think it answers my question.
In basic terms what I'm asking is, do the Golf Mk1 cabs devalue considerably over winter? I've looked around and I can't seem to find a reasonable car for less than ?1000. Soooo, if I wait til November, am I likely to get the same car cheaper?

At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. A cabbie for ?500 is going to require a lot of work. ?750 - $1000 will get you a half decent one with a few bits and pieces needing doing.

unless you pull an absolute blinder, which do still exist, tho they are alot harder to find than the pug. looking good by the way.
I did! At least, on the initial purchase cost (?325) for mine, this is as bought:
However, due to the spiralling costs of restoring the other Mk1 I have, I keep an accurate track of the spends on it, and in 3 months of ownership so far I have spent ?1134.48 including the purchase cost and road tax but excluding insurance. Could I sell it for ?1134.48? Don't think so.

i would pay you that for that car no worries.(if i had it)
god, i paid ?1500 for mine and gettin on for ?800 on top
ive been offered ?2700, so im up, ive got assured valuation policy of ?2k
i dont think that as yet the market has even started on these motors, theyre too young, but if you hold on im 100% sure theyre a valid investment, even tintops
wait and see what happens in 5 - 7 yrs and keep it original and keep it mint
i could be wrong tho !

Nah, being realistic, its ?750-1000 tops. Its a 1.5GL Auto….. the non-GTI and the Auto are going to knock quite a bit off the value, the colour is going to add a little (IMHO). My point is that you should buy a Mk1 Golf because you want one, not for an investment opportunity. If you want to buy and sell cars and make a profit, go for a 60s Merc coup? or an Aston Martin, or something.
