pressurised coolant system? whats up? UPDATE PAGE 2

ok, i know, it's another one about the corsa.

the colent system seems to get very pressurised when the engine is ticking over causing it to run badly.

whats causing this?

could it be the head gasket? if so how hard is it to change on a 1.4 ecotec?

damn car.

What do you mean by pressurised, or too pressurised?
It will be / is supposed to be to a certain extent.

If it is the head gasket, there are usually other signs, such
as water in the oil, look at the oil filler cap, if its got white
cream on it (like mayonaise) thats a good sign its gone.
Another one is water loss, do you have to fill up the water
a lot?, bad running, water getting in to the combustion
chambers, or oil in the water in some cases. Could be
the head gasket, but I wouldnt remove it before checking
everything else… last resort,  not a really bad job but its
just more time consuming as you will need (or usually) need
to get the head skimmed if its warped.

Best of luck

Right, see what you mean, do you have to top up
the water at all?, ie: weekly?. or is it ok.

Let the engine cool down, top up the water until
its level, warm it up, put the heaters on and see
what happens, it sounds like an air lock to me.

If you are unsure of the antifreeze level, drain the lot out, refill
with the correct amount of water, measure it, so you know
the correct amount has been put in. When refilling a
system, I leave a top hose loose to release trapped air
but its not strictly necessary.

Give it a try and see how you get on, hopefully a cheap fix.

cheers mate, there is no water in the oil, and if there was air being pumped in from the cylinders when running there would be oil/petrol getting into the water (wouldn't there?) and theres no sign of that either. i'll do the coolent and get back to you.

cheers mate.
