please help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I managed to get the bakerlite switch out of the gearbox. I have opened up the joint in plastic and saw 2 pins sticking out and on the outside are 2 triangular plastic lugs. I have noticed that 1 pin is broken the spring is not pushing it out. I can't work out how to get to the springs, anyone know how to do it.

Once you have split the switch in half, I'm not sure from memory if the half with the pins in is sealed?

I did mine a year ago and got working again, but only needed a good clean. If it's not obvious how to split then I guess it wont. Someone else here MUST KNOW!!! Come on chaps!!

I've had the pins out about 5 years ago and with the lugs from another unit but have forgotten. I have tried sliding needles down each side with no success, I will try wire later.

CRACKED IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After spliting the back panel just slides out…..easy!!!!!!!
I'm able to do a proper job by taken out the lugs, springs and rubber. Going to give it a good service. The springs look very small.

Blown it the spring and the plastic end shot off when trying to put it back, given up looking for it. I'll have to get a new unit.

GSF do a replacement but have noted that the spades are in a different place. The spaces on my plug are positioned 2 at each end, the new GSF plug have 4 spades in a row at the top with the  spade below off center. Anyone know of the GSF plug will work?

Well, what have we learnt here?

When working on gearbox switches, wiper motors, etc always perform overhaul in the shower cubicle with the plug IN!

Or is that just me…

Affraid it's bad news - you can't buy this type anywhere - not GSF, not VW. The one GSF do is the black one which is the later MK2 type. I've tried one, it doesn't work! (Previous owner re-wired the plug to suit)

The brown one you can only buy second hand.

I MAY ???? have one although it may be a u/s one that you could rob the bits from.

I'll have a dig around if you're interested and see what I can do but they're like gold dust. I did see also on eBay a silver Campaign being broken (not up for auction) Perhaps worth trying him too for the switch if not already gone.

From memory I tried people like Wagen Wheels too but as soon as they get them they keep 'em!!

Keep hold of hairy for yourself, last time this happened I found a number of brown plugs at the scrap yard from other Vws. The lugs however are in different positions but I managed to swop the lugs and springs over to make a good working unit. I will get back to you if no joy.

cheers
