I know alot of you lot on here are into photography so thought it would be a good place to ask

finally looking at moving into the DSLR world so what you recommend??

Been reading for a while and bugging the nerd in the shop and most recommend a Canon D550 or D600

Whatever camera you get is only going to be as good as the person using it.

Some of the the photos my dad has taken with his digital camera have been miles better than some peoples pictures who used a DSLR.

Then it comes down to how much you want to spend.

Are you going to be using it in manual or automatic mode?

If your going to use it as a point and shoot then I wouldnt spend a lot.

Yesterday I had a bargain in work, a panasonic lumix g1 (1 month old) tried it yesterday and was very impressed (using it in manual mode)

My dad has also had a eos 600d untill it packed in (his fault) and im happier to use the panasonic I just got.

The only time you will truely notice a difference is if you use one as part of your job, and I bet there still edited to improve quality.

The 2 you listed above are pretty much the same camera with the 600d having a few extra bits (tilt screen, full hd recording ect)

If you can afford to go for the 600d then your on to a winner but you wont be disapointed with the 550d.

do you sell these camera ceri?

Mrs Jb works at john lewis so i can get the 600 for £615 with lens

or the 550 is £530

£600 is all i got atm minute so with the 550 i can get a case and SD card

also what is the situation with high speed sd cards

Before you buy, test them. I was really close to buying a Canon, but found when I tried it in the shop that the button wasn't an easy reach for my finger. I ended up with the equivalent model in a Nikkon after finding it easier for my girly hands to grip and press. Sounds stupid, but it was the best advice I got before I bought mine!

I work in cash generator mate so see a lot of different stock everyday.

Picked up my new camera which even came with the receipt and warrenty.

High speed cards just save pictures faster than a normal camera.

So the time you wait inbetween the photo saving is reduced.

The 550d is a cracking camera.

The only upsides of the 600d is the tilt lcd screen and full hd recording.

For me a normal card is fine.

My camera's not an expensive DSLR, just a pretty basic 8Meg lump.

My pics usually come out okay.

If your handy with a camera then great things can be achieved with pretty much anything.
