old school cars what u think of them ?

this post is not to find out what was best ! just what have you had, they were all great cars and all had there faults
i had stuff like mk1 astra gtes, the best one i had was black with a twin head light grill looked mine as >>>> and use to bounce right of the rev range with no limter (shame you dont see many about now)still have a soft sport for these
then a had a uno turbo was a rocket ship but had to lower it 110 ml to get to go round corners was a fun car to drive
a measto turbo that was fun very quick and worth loads now wish i keeped it
mk3(escort) rs custom had one of them what a good looking car inside and out just open a ford mag and the cheapest one in there was 3.5k! looks like a cult following there .
never had a mk1 gti back in them days   wish i had would of been nice to drive one only five years old are so, but im makeing up for it now by have 5 of them  lol

My first car was a 1275GT mini - another motor that's shot up in value in recent years. After that I had a Beetle that I 'cal-looked' (lowered, Porsche alloys). I built a modified 1600 for that one and had a great time with it. Swapped it for a 3yr old Orion 1600i which I owned for 5 years (great on fuel and pretty fast). Polo G40 came next. Super-quick but rubbish round corners !  Astra Sri after that - a great car and absolutely bullet-proof engine. It cost me ?900 and I did 75,000 miles in it over 3 years. All I did was service and it needed a clutch during that time (oh, and loads of welding !). Sold it for ?300, so 75,000 miles for ?600 depreciation - cheap motoring or what. I'd deffo have a Mk1 Gte Astra if one came my way, but they're getting hard to find nowadays (rust is the problem)
Had various other toys (inc 3 Mk1 Gti's) during that time, but they were my daily drivers. Am now pure Golf (Mk1 Campaign, Mk1 Caddy Sport and Mk4 TDI 130), but fancy another Beetle now the prices have come down a bit

Loved and admired the …

Mk1 Astra
Mk1 XR2
Fiat Uno Turbo
Renault 5 (the early ones)
Fiat Miafioro (sp?)
Triumph Dolomite Sprint
AlfaSud Ti

A few others in there too, but I think those were the most memorable.

Mk1 GTI was the best obviously. I had a 1600 y-reg during the 80s…. Mk2's were stupid money ?10k+!

Cheers,

Drew.

In the 70's and 80's and thru the never ending loan off my mum I had in order: mgb-gt, lotus elan coupe, triumph spitfire, triumph tr6pi, mgb-gt….I had quite a bit of fun with that lot (thanks to my mum). The best memories that I can think of was when, me and a friend drove all the way down to Portugal in the little spitefire. got to a place called Lagos…back axle went. Drove to Benidorm in the first mgb-gt….clutch went…drove to Norfolk in the lotus, got back and found that I had done most of trip using only 3 cylinders…..Oh they were the days……..

Just about anything pre-1983ish catches my eye… I love all cars but I have a huge soft spot for old Opels (Asconas, Kadett 'C's, mantas, Diplomats etc), Fords, Fiats, Mercs, E21 3-Series BMWs… have a look round the forums on retro-rides.com - This website is for sale! - retro rides Resources and Information. (where I spend most of my time) to see what I mean!

Bring on the Lotus Sunbeams - scarce parts, fast car, lots of rot, very few good ones - what more could you want!  I like them  :D

If I was looking for oldies to complement the golf I think it would be one of those old Audi 80s?, The one the golf is based on.

And

One of those Camper vans with the pick up and crew cab conversion.

Was trying to find a link but I can't find a picture of either anywhere.
