Nurburgring Trip

There is a group of us going to the Ring on 15june for a long weekend if anyone wants to come along. We all live in the Isle of Man but can meet anybody on the way to Dover or at Dover if preferred. So far we have got almost 10 cars going from here including a couple of mk1`s,a couple of mk2`s,ur Quattro,mk1 BMW M3,Porsche GT3 and an old guy in a Ford Cougar. We plan to leave for Calais on 18june.Ive been there a couple of times before so anyone worried about their car not making it can take out breakdown cover, ive done it before but never needed it.It usually costs about ?75 from the AA.Get in touch if u fancy coming.

NURBY TRIP

Took bros Cateram7 [2.0 16v on webbers] We did trailer it down behind
a mk4GTtdi 150 effortless driving and still nearly 40mpg.We managed to
fit in one day at spa as well which made a nice long weekend. There was
a fair bit of damage done by over enthusiasm[at spa].
Working the dates is the biggest hurdle
Riding in that Mk1 was great tho,I could just see over the dash because
the seat was so low.Series1 1.8 8v 1.6 gearbox[Gti],He planed on putting
a 2.016v in it he had already upgraded the brakes.

Yes ive already checked the dates and its available that weekend-although the old-timer festival is on during the midweek-there should be plenty of people there for that who will also want to drive the ring that weekend.Anybody else up for going??

I'd love to come down and watch, i would be a bit hesitant about taking my mk1 on the track, although it would be tempting to see what it could do, especially if i get get the 1.8 16v in!!! Sounds like a good selection of cars are going down as well and i've managed to tempt a mate, i'd have to see nearer the time though!!

I'm now mk1less, ahhhhhhh!

If you do go don't be afraid to go out. If a 52 seat coach can go around full of tourists then I'm sure you'll be fine.

It's pass on the left so slower cars stay to the right and though it can be hairy at times if you use your mirrors and don't drive beyond your limits you'll have a great time.

If like us in the 7 you're doing sub 9 min laps though you don't need to look behind much

Ive been accross the channel a few times and u can get a return boat crossing for easily ?100-usually less.It will take approx 4+half-5hrs to reach the Nurburgring. This would probably take a tank of fuel in a half decent car+another back to be safe-but when u get to france, the petrol in the supermarkets are quite a bit cheaper than we pay.As for the route-its pretty simple,u only have to take a few major roads to get right there-a routeplan off someones website like theAA would be fine as ive done it myself like this but now ive got a tomtom which makes it much easier.A couple of my mates that are going also have them so we were going to plan that maybe a car without it can follow the car in front with one+have a routeplan printed just in case-obviously they will have mobiles too. Also, some of us may be looking for passengers-the plan was to have 2 per car but most of my mates want to take their own cars which still leaves us with a few spaces-me included as yet.As for accommodation-we will stay at the campsite nearby but there is plenty of hotels and B+B`s nearby but these are usually packes when there is something going on there.

Sounds like a great trip.  I'll be working in Germany at the time - if I can get the day off I may meet up with you guys, depending on where I'm based.

Keep us informed of your plan! :)
