Not a good month.....

I'm just having a rant and letting off steam - don't want sympathy…..

Strange misfire on the GTI….
Slow puncture in front nearside…..
Rust appeared in passenger door….
Rust appeared in drivers door…..
Rust appeared on bonnet….
The car is FILTHY…..
Main computer crashed out in a big way…
Laptop had to be resurected - installed faster, bigger hard drive and installed XP, firewalled and anti-spywared to the hilt and even that would not allow me to post on here for a while, only read what you lot were up to….and it's STILL SOOOOOOOO SLOWWWWWWW!!!!! - even with 2mb broadband !!!!………
Run out of readies and no new contracts in sight…….(thank goodness for my Army Pension)…..

ON THE BRIGHTER SIDE……
The house is now re-rendered and painted outside……
I made a new solid gate between the house and garage - 2.5 mtrs high !!!!
The misfire was a series of duff plug leads…..
….and I can now post on here again…..
I'm now gong for a haircut (or at least an estimate)…..

I'm sure there are a few IT geeks on here (like me) who could fix stuff like that for other non-geek type people…

Would anyone find an area of the forum dedicated to that useful?

…could be a good idea as quite often new peeps have probs uploading images etc….

…would not have sorted me out though as for some reason I could read all the posts but had problems submiting….then before crashing would not let me access my host…..checked all firewall, antivirus and antispyware settings to no avail……

…and I thought I was an IT nerd…..built all my main machines, even butchering the old laptop….
I absolutely HATE re-installing all the software :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

Prowler, once you've got your machines installed how you like them, get a copy of Symantec's ghost.. very easy to use (if you haven't before)
create an image of the machine's hard drive..
then if ever it goes pete tong again, use the image to restore and you'll be up and running within 30 minutes and saves reinstalling everything one by one

ghost has saved me hours of reinstallations  :y:

Or… If you've got windows XP Pro (home edition doesn't have it) then use the backup wizard to create an image. Your probably best to get an additional Hard Disk to back up to, or it might fit on a DVD if you have a burner.

I prefer IT professional than either Geek or Nerd or the infamous 'Wiz Kid'   ( 33 and kid don't go together anymore  )

XP Pro image doesn't compress the image so it can gets rather large I like PQI, but there are quite few freeware progs out there that are very good :D

The Website issues forum would suffice for most IT quieres don't you Think?

Rob , Work in IT would rather play with the car :D
