New Wiring loom POLL
Would you be interested in a brand new COMPLETE wiring loom? Im thinking of the Plug n Play type. I may be able to produce these to GTi spec. same wire colour & connectors etc. What price would you pay for one? If this does go ahead it will eliminate the need for Uprated headlite mods… etc. What do you think? :dontknow:

Well I know there were a lot of changes during Series 1 GTi lifetime (column switches, enigne loom, etc) and there are certainly differences from Series 1 to Series 2 (switches). So I imagine a few differences during Series 2 life (1982 on had later fusebox and instrument cluster connector) and also for later Cabrios.
I would check the wiring diagrams over the years before you go ahead.

Be interested to know how you are going to source the more bespoke terminal housings and what crimp tools you are going to use.
As an ex-AMP senior designer (automotive cabble assembly div) I had access to most of these thing via the sample room, some would take months to arrive though but others were pure-unobtainium.

I put yes, but how difficult is it to remove and replace it with a new one? how long are you thinking it would take to supply and is there any difference between say a July 83 Gti(mine) and a Campaign version and which version would it be? I'm interested by the way

Yes… as long as there are some nice fitting instructions / diagrams! I HATE wires!!! Thought about having a go at mine in stages… Start with the rear and see how it goes. Need to upgrade to the newer type fusebox though (my 81 GTI has the old type).

You're gonna replace AMP terminals with Harting's 8O
I've built a lot of looms in the past professionally and as a sideline - never made any money out of it, if I'd billed the last bloke for a complete bespoke wire of his twin ZX9 engined focus replica, it would have run to best part of a grand.
Never done a full resto job though - mainly because I could never source/replace all the housings.
Be good to see how you get on…

I'd be intersted if original spec on connectors etc. Are you qualified at this - don't mean that to sound rude but didn't know if you do this for a living, done before etc…
Anyway. I've voted yes!

To put all your minds at rest. I have been making www.pmssystems.com looms & Cabs for the past 7 years. The connector will be as original as possible with only one hardwired connector, being the steering colomn one as it is bespoke & obsolete! I will make a couple and see how we go. i believe the loom i have to copy is a mid eighty's GTi. No-one has hinted at a price either.
I keep you all posted on progress.

id take one right now if you had one. god only knows how my golf is still working to sum up my current loom
scotch locks
all brown wires are fused into one
wires twsited together and taped over
speaker cable melted into main loom
earth strap melts into battery
most of the lights are bridged from one side to other
dash lights dont work
horn doesnt work
must state none of that is my work, ive done little electrical work on the car, theres a relay in the front that no one has any idea what it does
how quickly can you make one, and tbh id say 200 would be a fair price, i payed 80 or 90 quid for a brand new wiring loom for my beach buggy. but GTi slightly diff and its being made so 200 would seem fair, and its about all i got lol
if you can make one for a mk1 series 2 81 GTi jettronic, can you let me know how quick you can make one, and how much
cheers

I'd definitely have one. I've been looking everywhere for somewhere that supplies them but nothing! As for price I reckon I'd go up to ?300 as I'm sure it takes a while to put together plus materials. Let me know how you get on, I reckon there's a big market going unserved here…
