New (sort of) and a question about the seat lift mechanism

I am sort of new - have been reading this site for years but not really participating (sorry)….anyway…..I bought a MK1 golf about 9 months ago and I am (after much feet dragging and procrastination) about to get it back on the road.

However I also want to get some of the niggly things fixed while I am at it.  One of which is the seat mechanism - on the drivers side the lift mechanism (to allow people into the back seat) is broken, feels like the cable has snapped.  Is there a guide (pref with pics) to how to fix this - and where can I buy these cable is it has snapped?

Thanks

I should get up some pics and take part more around here :)

if your a cheap like me, you can use normal electrical wire and the connector blocks and reattach the snapped wire.

you'll have to bend a few pointy metal tabs at the base of the back cover and lift it up slightly to see what you're doing.

OK, I will investigate, how do I get at it? from the bottom of the seat cover at the back? where are the tabs?

yes, bottom of the back seat cover.. you'll see the triangular tabs that are poking through.. bend them back with a flat screwdriver

I had a look Yesterday evening but was pretty dark and couldn't find the tabs, I was able to find the cable through the edge of the upholstery though and it is snapped - is this the part I need?
