New MK2 16V Engines

Whats a brand new 16V KR engine worth with most ancillarys?

I might be able to get my hands on a few  8)

depends,new vw or recon by someone else? got to be worth 500 to 800 ish?

They stopped making Mk2s in approx 1992, so no engine is brand new any more. I don't know when VW continued supplying 'new' parts (engine block and all the other bits, or complete exchange engine) up until, I imagine up until that point they retailed at something between ?1000-2000. An aftermarket engine reconditioner couldn't really hope to sell this type of engine for more than about ?800 unless they had something extra over & above simply being a new aftermarket rebuilt engine. If you were to sell them as a private seller, then you cannot offer the same assurance (or guarantee etc) as a well established "household name" engine reconditioners so you'll never get ?800. Maybe ?400-500 at the absolute max???

They're probably seized then, what with them stopping being sold 17 years ago.

They turn fine and are clean as a bean inside, still have tags on them  :wink:

How come you now have them and want to sell?

Posh fella bought them at auction years ago along with panels and gearboxes for old V dubs including Karman gear, mk1 Sirocco all and all sorts, including 4 brand new teardrop alloys  8)

I'll assume the auction was from a liquidation sale of a VW dealership or possibly a garage who'd bought a Genuine VW engine. Now you have an idea of the price, maybe post something in the "Parts for sale" section then? The proof of the pudding, etc….

you can buy a vw exchange engine (reconned by vw) the engine number is stamped different,my TD is a vw exchange engine,its got a sticker on the side behind the clutch  :wink:
