New hood for '88 Gti Cabrio

Hi,

I've just bought my stepmother's 88 GTi Cabrio at 77k miles for ?1k     It needs tidying up in a few areas, but is pretty sound bodywork wise and has a good engine (slight tappet noise, but nothing i can't sort out).

Unfortunately the hood is ripped slightly just behind the windscreen, with the metalwork from the locking mechanism protruding through.  This is enough to cause leaking when it rains.

Can anyone recommend a professional outfit in the West Midlands area who could supply and fit another?

iv had this problem…best thing to do is to google it or yellow pages. make sure u ring round and get some prices. best iv found is around ?400ish supplied and fitted. thats in mohair.

Will certainly do a fair amount of searching before i decide.  The current one was a replacement, and i reckon that if it were fitted better it would have lasted longer.

From the looks of your photo there, mine'll look just like yours when it's done

mine is far from done! i was meant to be gettin a new hood this week, but i got a crack in the cylinder block so its new engine time for me! the money i saved for the hood will be going towards that now. never mind! just hope the weather holds cos my roof leaks!!     

Bugger! sorry to hear that. Mine leaks too, so i reckon i'll do it sooner rather than later. Reckon i'll change the tappets too - lucky i have a 'main' car  

Good luck with the engine - how'd it crack? overheat or something?

yea, well long story really….had my brakes done, amonst other things, and after that i picked it up it overheated….discovered it was the electric fan switch connector thingy bob under the bonnet….guy who had my car must have knocked it off or summat. it ran fine for a few weeks, then all of a sudden its p*ssing water everywhere. so dont really know   :dontknow:

Just ordered a full set of cables (2side and rear) for ?21.50 including P&P will be with me tomorrow morning

They may be able to do your roof in other colours as they have patterned their own and make them themselves

sorry for my poor geography but are you anywhere near them for their fitting service

im in leeds for another month while i finish off uni, then im in the midlands which is a long way from kent. i dont mind. i like driving  :mrgreen:    especially if its for a green hood. and yea the price is mint!! nice find!! thanks for posting it up xx

not a problem I needed the cables for weekend so is excellent service as they say I'll have them tomorrow

Yea got Northern Hoods to do mine last month - they came to my work's carpark & fitted it - Black Vinyl ?320 fitted.
Very pleased with the job he did.

Well i pick my Gti up from London tomorrow and bring it back here to Malvern, Worcs. So a nice drive up for my first proper go
