New Golf R36!

This must be mentally fast

VW have been testing a new golf R36 which has the uprated engine with DSG box from the new Passat R36, including deeper spoiler at the front and much bigger air intakes.

Looks pretty nice and must go like an absolute rocket.

Probably in competition with the uprated civic and focus

The new scirocco looks like a civic! But it will be intresting if anyone takes the R36 engine and box and does a conversion....

R36 engine would be nice in a Mk1 (if it fits). I'm assuming its simply a bore and stroke of the existing VR6?

Well yeah. Imagine if someone had done an R32 engine conversion, thinking they'd created the ultimate Mk1, only to find out that the R36 was the same external size and would have fitted…..

I think realistically if you were doing that type of conversion you'd be looking at seam welding the floorpan and main passenger cell, then also incorporating an FIA spec roll cage, which also goes forwards to pick up the front suspension turrets. That would be plenty strong enough for the engine.

It would be sensible to convert the engine to run on methanol, too.

also a good idea to weld up all the doors bootlid sunroof

After all, in its 4 cylinder form, Outrage III produced around 800bhp from 3 litres, it ran on methanol with a turbocharger. So with 3.6 litres, you're looking at close to 1000bhp.
