Needing A hand

Im doin an essay on Torque and Horsepower for my outcome in power units. on 1 section ive gota compare a petrol engine and a diesel engine.
So ive my picked my Vr6 and my 1600cc Diesel engine in my caddy.
SO
If anyone could help me with a few questions?

Valve Operating Arrangement in the 1.6 diesel?
Compression Ratio in the diesel and the combustion chamber type?

Thanks in advance

The valves for the diesel operate in the same way as the petrol. i.e. opening/closing directly from a single belt driven overhead cam via shimmed cam followers.

Compression ratio for the 1.6 is 23:1. Bore and stroke is 76.5 x 86.4.

Your diesel engine will probably be indirect injection, with the fuel injected into a pre-combustion chamber, which in turn is connected to the main combustion chamber. This was done on older diesel engines to reduce noise and to allow the engine to rev faster.

These days injector technology and NVH (noise vibration and harshness) has moved on significantly, so virtually all diesel engines in modern passenger cars are direct injection.

If you're going to be doing lots of studying on engines, I'd recommend the don of all engine books, called "Fundamentals of Internal Combustion Engines", by John Heywood. You can get it here: -
