as some of you may have seen me restoring my mk1 gti you will know its now finished and i want to drive it to germany. and do various events along the way ( driving through netherlands, belgium, luxembourg) to raise money for charity. i was wondering if there was any way of finding exactly where in germany my golf was made?. thanks if any of you know how to do this. i know it may be impossible but worth a try :) thanks guys

Wolfsburg I would imagne.
I think on your Serial number if it has a W prefix it's a wolfsburg built car?

All Cabbies were made at the Karmann Factory in Osnabruck.

If it's a US Rabbit then it's known as a Westmorland and believed to of been made in Westmorland Pennsylvania, but that's not accurate. The plant was actually located a few miles away in New Stanton Pennsylvania. Production went from April of 1978 to July of 1988. A total of 1,192,411 cars were built there.

Plus you can get a birth certifcate from VW with the details I beleive..
