Need help w/my 92 cabriolet.

I recently bought a 92 cab. I hear a leak around the back of the motor during startup.  Told the manifolds are prone to cracking. Would like a cheap header/manifold to put on.  
also, my temp gauge in the dash does not work.  Have replaced 2 sensors in water jacket on front of motor.  How do I test?
