Name and shame?

What s the etiquette with naming and shaming people who feed you a load to view the car they have for sale?

i have viewed too many that have lied about the condition of the car.

My attitude is if you are going post on a 'enthusiasts' website, hoping to receive 'enthuisast' money then you need to be more genuine.

The amount of overpriced turds out there is just crazy

Very subjective fella.
What as a seller and what the buyer perceives as good or bad is down to the levels of knowledge and personal tastes & to what they value they have.
A seller wants as much as possible and the buyer cheap as possible. It's finding the middle ground on agreeing what a car is worth and condition.
I agree some exaggerate the condition though.

as said it can be very subjective.  if however the differences are not subjective, but just a complete lie (like saying a white car is black, or calling a tintop a cabbie) then i would have no problem in name and shame. An argument on the net though can be very petty.  With regards to price…  It's their car so they can ask for whatever they want.

While i agree with what both of you are saying, when you spend £xx on fuel and do a 400 mile round trip to find out the car is not original and has filler popping out of it and very badly welded sills it gets so frustrating.

Also, when you are prepared to pay top money its not a case of trying to get a deal. I just want an honest car/seller.

Hey ho, maybe a was a little naive in taking the word of people just because this is a genuine forum - by the way, i am not taring everyone with the same brush. i have had some great advice and opinions on here and it is an invalubale resource.

ok rant over! :banghead:

Did you ask general questions like 'is the car in good condition' or specific questions like like 'has the car been welded' or are 'the seats worn/torn'. The more general the questions the more general the answers going to be, specific questions that need a yes/no answer are difficult to be subjective about. Still won't stop some muppets lieing through there back teeth but gives you grounds to call them that to there face if its not as described when you get there

Try and get owner to eamil lots of close up pics?

All ways ask for plenty if pictures if your travelling 400 miles.
If they won't send photos then it's not worth bothering with.
Ask and ask if they ate scetchy about the answers then that should be a red flag.
If something does not really make sense it's usually not true.
It's all ways buyer be ware.

Anyone can sign up and use the forum though. If you have a browse through the classifieds pages, you'll find that many members sign up and their only post(s) are in there. Or they've made a handful of posts elsewhere.

Another problem is subjectively comparing quality of work - to some people, welding up a sill so it gets through the MoT is acceptable. Maybe your approach needs to be to buy a ropey car and spend the time restoring it (again), rather than spending a lot of money and hoping its done as you'd like it. Rust is easy to cover up and I've lost count of the number of rusty old cars I've seen with glossy paintwork!

i would love to do the restoration myself, however i do not have anywhere to do it.

As i said, i think i'm more annoyed with myself for being a bit naive.

Thanksfully, i used my head not my heart when going to view

I went to buy a Audi Quattro from a guy who was on the committee of the Quattro owners club there where loads of pics on pistonheads and it looked the part drove down 200 miles insured it for the return trip paid my mate for his petrol to take me down etc
got there and the pics must have been 10yrs old he hadn't even bothered moving the dirty tissues out of the side pockets to say I felf sick was an understatement

its just one of them things and every site has the same issues just have to take your chances and hope come good.

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?
