Mysterious colour change on Pearl Grey Mk2 GTi - ADVICE pls

Hello all,

can anyone please advise. I'm in the process of selling my brother's mk2 & the buyer has done an hpi check on the car which says the colour was changed from "Grey" to "Black" in 1996.

The car is 1000000% Pearl Grey (LA7U paint code on all the stickers). Has had some panels resprayed but all in Pearl Grey. I know the previous owner who owned the car from new until July'04. I know the car has always been pearl grey. Contacted the DVLA who said that the logbook must have been sent back to them in '96 with an instruction of a colour change from "Grey" to "Black". Have a call in to the previous owner (who owned the car from brand new) who will hopefully clarify the situation. But was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else… At the moment, the buyer thinks i'm being disingenuous about the car.

My brother's old graphite grey (darker than pearl grey) Pug 205GTi was classified as "Black" on his logbook. Does anyone have any suggestions? Could the DVLA have ballsed up?

no its impossible that any government agency could get any information wrong. its unheard of, it just dosent happen. 8O  8O  8O
