My car Failed MOT

Hi ya guys, My golf failed the MOT today. Simple things really and was to be expected. The front Near side wheel bearing has too much play, which iam going to investigate. The rear brake cylinder had no effort, looks like a new one. 1 rear tyre to get and the emmisions where 4.92 limit of 4.50 so it failed there too. Every thing else was ok.

Question i have is the 2E2 carb, Which way to i screw the mixture setting to that it runs lean? Is it In or out? Like to know if there is a trick for MOT passes.

Got 10 days to do the work then the retest. Cant wait to get it on the road legally.

Only jokin.. I know how it feels Mine failed two weeks back on stupid little things. I had to get 2 front tyres which I only brought 6 months back. Had no car for a week and it felt like someone had cut my legs off. Take it somewhere else if you dont trust the ones who checked it first. I did after I got the jobs done and I felt much better.

MOT - nice time of the year-

Front wheel bearing you will have to replace , Rear brake no effort looks like brake cylinder siezed , replace . Your emmisions , give the car and oil and filter change and change the air filter this will bring it within limits providing the timing is spot on . No tricks now for the MOT . My mate who runs his own Mot bay was showing me the latest  Goverment software and forms linked to DVLA , CURRENT PRICE for an MOT is ?40.00 but the local traders round here will be increasing the test to around ?50.00 when the next software and price increase drops in .

Progress , how much did you have to pay for yours ? Will you have to pay again for the retest ?

I had to pay ?40 twice. My mate in Dudley was going to do it but this new Government Software had kicked in the day I was coming down so he didnt have time. The days of cheap MOT's will soon be gone?
 

The mot costs ?25 and the retest is another ?10 which i thought was a steal. The oil/filter was changed last week but what iam going to do is take it to a garage and get them to set up the timing and carb.Should`nt cost much i hope. The wheel bearing is on its way as with the rear slave cylinder. so by next week all the work should be done. Just in time for the hot weather. Im glad GSF are around here too for the parts. Cheaper than Micheal Jacksons court costs.

Just to let U know, It Passed! Yipppee.... now out in the hot weather! Funny ya know i was driving in Tavistock in Devon and pulled out behind a Black Mk1 GTI Cab. Followed it for a while, then it turned off. Ya dont see any for years then by chance u see a few. "Must be like see an old mate after a quite a few years"
