moral dilemma

opinions please

ok i have a slight dilemma and not to sure what to do and would like a second opinion

about 18 months ago i decided to break up my audi s4, been stripping it slowly over the months, anyway i had removed the engine (v6 twin turbo) and put an ad on an audi forum, got a message from someone who wanted the engine, but only wanted the long block (case heads etc) and didnt want the bits bolted on, so i stripped a complete running engine of the alt, turbos some sensors and pipework, so now im left with an engine with lots of bits missing, this was november. then started having trouble getting in touch with the buyer, eventually before xmas after several emails he said he didnt want the engine after all. but im now left with a half stripped engine, i pointed out to him that the only reason i stripped it was because of him, couple more emails he appoligised said he was sorry and paid me the full amount we had agreed for the engine and promised to collect asap. been sending regular emails since then and have had mixed responses, he says he will collect the next week, or no reply.

this has been going on since november, i have no problems with the buyer after all he has paid in full, but now im stuck with this sodding great big, heavy engine taking up space in my garage. i have asked several times if he actually want it but no reply, so what do i do, keep pestering him to collect,or sell/scrap the engine and hope he dosent ask for it? do you think there is an acceptable time limit when i could tell him sorry its gone? and should i refund his money? (last resort :$)

i know what i want to do but i would like to know what other people think

Simple really, just message him and say that he has a further 14 days to collect the engine. After that you are going to charge storage fees for the engine at a rate you decide. When the value of the engine exceeds the storage charge, Tell him that you  require the storage charges or the engine will be sold to recover the costs of storage, plus the time you took to strip as per the contractual obligation of sale.
It's not a moral issue, you don't leave your new tv at currys till tyou can be arsed to fetch it..

Chortle is spot on here I believe although i'm no legal beagle!

If you follow Chortle's advice it would be extremely hard for the Guy to take any kind of Legal action against you. In fact it's the other way round!!!!

Would you want his case if you were a Solicitor?
It costs you 50 Quid just to get one to write down his name and address, let alone handle something like this.

You have been more than fair and reasonable, time to stop Sir.

Another one in agreement with Chortle here. Send him a polite message giving him 14 days and then get rid mate.

18 months!!!!!!!! :lol:I don't know how much he paid for the engine but if it's a significant amount I can't believe he'd leave it that long O_oChortles idea is good  :cool:Edit; misread the time length, but still

Tell him that it'll start incurring storage costs, £10 a day from the day you inform him.

If you've got his address that should shift him!!

I'd just print off a copy of all your emails to him to show if it was ever questioned the attempts you made to resolve the problem (so try be polite). Lol.
