Mk1 to the rescue, again!
I was called upon for a bit of assistance yesterday. A friend's Vauxhall Vectra saloon had broken down and needed a tow to the next town. What better to tow it than a trusty mk1 Golf diesel…wish I'd taken a photo. Those Vectra's are big things compared to a mk1 Golf! Got the odd second look from pedestrians as we tootled into town, when they noticed a small 22 year old VW was towing a 4 year old Vauxhall!
I thought Vauxhalls were good? Might have been even more satisfactory if it had been a Ford!

Nothing good about Vauxhalls Used to work in a Vauxhall dealership and that really put me off them. VW reliability any day

The Vectras are getting better now. 150BHP CDTI is fun because no-one expects it to be fast as it is  We have about 60 on our fleet at the moment.

Did I mention my untouched 1.6 has the same 0-60mph time as a Vauxhall Astra 1.7 DTi, despite not having a turbo? And the same mpg despite not having direct injection? The only down side is the chance of survival in a crash! If VW's didn't exist I'd probably have a Vauxhall, so I'll let that broken down Vectra off for now.
What have you been up to Bert? I thought yours was in tip-top condition when you got it, it has to be the best around now! 8)

Well diesel dubber,i have made it better,i have had the tailgate painted as it had faded,i have renewed the dash board(lifted in the windscreen demist vents) i have 5 speeded it,had the fuel pump reconditioned due to leaking throttle shaft, replaced the oil seals everywhere and renewed the belts/tensioner,glow plugs, waterpump etc.
Whilst the dash was out i have rewired the wiring to the old wireless or cd player nowadays, and tidied up bits etc.The oil temp guage was not wired in so i have done that too.
Love the car, will keep it long term, going to inject it with engine oil in all cavities soon then its off to storage for winter, still using GX now.
Also repaired the speedo as it didnt clock up miles all the time,a little cog had spilt in the clock.
