Most you guys will be rubbish at GT4. If you want to use a Golf you will have to mod it!!! Shock horror 8O
Jokes aside I suppose you can keep a standard one in your garage for a play now and again.
Can?t wait for it to be released. I wanted to finish the 3rd game first but don't think that?s going to happen. I suppose 90 something % is not too bad. 8)

Pah…. GT4, a "mere" trifle
What we need to do is get in touch with the developers of http://www.liveforspeed.net.
This about the best online racing experience out there and they already have the setup for a small FWD hatch, so just need to find someone to model the Mk1! Once that is sorted we could be looking at a 20 car field of Mk1 golfs racing online…. now THATS what I call a game

Chris, try out the 'Racer' free simulation. It's limited for actual racing with others but they have a Group 2 MK1 Golf racing car!

As for best on line racing, got to be Grand Prix Legends! 8)

Hi Hairy,
Have to confess I was a bit of a sim racing addict until recently, so I have pretty much tried them all .
Racer is good for "real" cars as its open source, but I have to confess I don't think the online netcode is up to the standards of Live For Speed yet, and if I'm honest I'm only really into the online racing aspect - the solo / computer opponent mode is not nearly as interesting imho.
Once you have been in a race with 15 other people all in similar spec cars its hard to go back to anything else  . Even though some of the cars are not that fast this makes the racing even more fun as its much closer and imho more realistic. The FWD hatch in LFS is a prime example of this.
Grand Prix Legends is the "grand daddy" of online racing sims and with all the 3rd party addons still one of the best online sims. Only thing is its not the sort of thing you can just fire up and enjoy… the cars are (as I imagine the real ones were) quite tricky to control, so you have to put in a lot of practice to keep things on the track!
Maybe its just me, but the only games (console or PC) that tend to keep me interested are the ones with online play. Live For Speed is one I keep coming back to, and probably the occasional game of Quake 3 Arena (although not played for a long time, and now I guess Doom 3 is probably grabbing all the attention).
Cheers,
Chris

Yup, GPL does it for me - spent about a year trying to master it and still not there although my GPL Rank (if that means anything to you??!!) is about +79 now!
The online racing is close and fun although a lot of 'wreckers' out there now in the pick up races ruining it for everyone else so most are into league racing now - for fun of course!
GTR is out in Feb for PC (German import only at moment) that looks like it could be popular

I never really spent enough time on GPL to get my GPL rank anywhere even near average
GTR sounds good, as does the S2 release of Live For Speed which will have a lot of new features. Wreckers are always a problem, but most good online games have enough server admin tools that banning or kicking wreckers is easy enough.
At one stage I had one of the BRD race frames with pedals, shifter and 3 TFT screens - fantastic for immersive racing, but didn't really use it enough so ended up selling most of the stuff off.
Still have the wheel & pedals and the 3 TFT's for the occasional online burn, but thats about it now.
With the Campaign and my MX-5 a lot of my free time is taken up "tinkering" with the cars, or driving them, so don't really spend nearly as much time online as I used to.
Much more fun messing with and driving the real thing imho

How about a club trip to the N?rburgring? A timetrial with standard MK1's!
"The challenge of the 20.8-mile Nordschleife has proven irresistible to Europe's driving enthusiasts since it was opened to the public. For just 14 Euros a lap you can drive around the greatest motor racing circuit of them all."

Littlekev,
I was only having a giggle about the clubs credo on standardised golfs. I think you?ve missed my point.
My post was intend as a friendly dig, an obvious joke if a tad sarcastic.
Come on lighten up
Need for speed is ok as arcade racer for all the max power fans out there. However it is seriously lacking in lifespan. Gt3 is in a different league and I suppose it?s unfair to compare the two.

I thought Need for speed 2 was a lot more playable than the the GT series. I even started enjoying upgrading the colour of my UV lights. Something I hope never happens to me in real life

Thanks Jon, at least in need for speed you can drive around but GT series all you do is drive around the tracks all the time. Some of the tracks also take over an hour to complete which can also be a bit boring.
I,m not into the neons & decals etc but the engine tuning options etc are quite good.

Today has definitely been a red circle day on my calendar! One guess where I'll be tonight? On the Nurburgring in a MK1….. come on!
(Well if it's possible to unlock it in 1 night!)
