MIke Brewer - Wheeler Dealers
Looks nice your motor Drew - They look better being driven I think.
I am not a total techno buff on the GTI but some of the detail in Mike's script was, well wrong :? wasn't it :?:
Shame they didn't ask you to provide the technical stuff Drew. Its seems even more "wrong" the second time around.
Anyway at least it gave us some potential exposure.

A starter for ten.
1. It wasn't a campaign!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Fitting an ammeter in a 12 Volt negative earth car is a BAD idea!
3. Pirelli alloys were wrong for the car
4. Black centres on the alloys were wrong!
5. The side stripe decals were fitted upside down
6. It didn't have a mk2 centre console
7. Ed China initially put the steering wheel on upside down after refitting the dash….
On the positive side I found Mike Brewer was a great chap, very engaging to talk to and did know a lot about cars. Having been on the 'production' end of these television shows it's very clear that the 'on screen persona' of a presenter is totally different than in real life and that the vast majority of material is scripted, checked for all sorts of things including any potential legal issues, length, complexity and so on.
What actually gets into the show is a result of the editors decisions, not the presenter, so they don't get a great deal of say in how the whole piece comes together. The shows only exist to sell advertising space so the programme has to hit as many audience profiles as possible, so immediately attention to detail and factual accuracy tend to get compromised. That's television for you!
And littlekev, if we can perhaps be a tiny bit more subtle with our opinions of some of these media types  we've had a lot of publicity and help from the press and telly folks in the past…shame to muck that up.
Cheers,
Drew.

Ooooh i'm so sorry
I don't want to be bashing people over the head for not doffing their caps and holding doors open for the ladies, but I know for a fact that folks from discovery channel, the BBC and the press regularly 'haunted' the campaign register forum (hence various invites for top gear etc and bits in magazines etc).
They might even be watching now… (cue twilight zone music)
Cheers,
Drew.

I too was infuriated when I watched that episode to hear of all the things they were saying about the car which were untrue!!!
Drew - Was the buyer at the end of the show actualy an unsuspecting mug or was it a staged sale?

incidently, pretty sure he's now given up restoring it (brought all the panels but never welded them in!) would buy it myself but I'm not allowed and don't have any space now but if someone's SERIOUSLY interested in buying it, I'll have a chat with him, he's just down the road from me (Berkshire)
would be nice to know it goes to a member here than the local scrappy
