Metal small bumpers...shape?

weird one this, and kinda linked to the 'quarter' bumper thread…

What shape are the metal bumpers? i've never actually had a good look at a set close up.

Firstly…cross section, are they the same the whole length, apart from indicators mounts?

Plan view…are they straight? or curved slightly? or are there definate bends along the length (front and back?).

Are there legal requirements related to any custom bumpers fitted, or it is just as long as no silly protruding points etc?

Considering the number of bettles with those pointy 't' shaped bumper replacement things I doubt it!

I think Dubboy would be the man that knows.. but guessing here, I think the bumpers are straight.. a lot of the chrome ones have a kinda recessed front bit

your's does look like it needs something

Cross section is kind of a square "u" like this ] but with an indented strip across the middle the same hight as the indicators.

I did draw you a really nice ASCI picture of it, but when you preview it, it doesn't include all the spaces! :banghead:

Plan - Front is slightly curved, back is straight…

Back is slightly curved too.

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday :D

Really - It must be ever-so-slightly then!

If you were to make some of your own, you would get away with straight on the back. The fronts would look a bit odd though…

Hmm, some interesting points. I suspected they may be slightly curved but was hoping not!

I like the idea of some black metal bumpers…but was just thinking about what other options there were, custom metal bumpers etc..

I was considering something simple like a phat pipe (ala Al_mk1s dash), matt silver or matt black, wouldnt be easy to get the curve in though!

In case you haven't seen my sly post….its all change!  Am buying another Mars Red Mk1 from Endor on Sat!!!  So the Doggy killer is now for sale :?   Done me very well that car has.

Shouldnt count my chickens of course, havent picked the other one up yet!

A bit of a crazy idea on the bumper front……. A company called Wards make all types of extruded sections for the construction industry…. I wonder if any resemble MK1 bumpers. I'll have a looksie
