Main dealers or is it just me

Here is the facts.

I booked in my van for its 1st service on friday with the main dealer

Picked it up 2hrs later than they said as they were busy :dontknow:

Paid the £235 bill which seemed dear for a bit of oil and a check over  :dontknow:

drove home did a couple of 3 point turns and parked up for the weekend  :D

Saturday afternoon I glanced through the window and it looks like kids have been squirting oil out of Fairy liquid bottles all over the drive (tarmac)

Monday back to the dealer (sorry but yes I did swear at him)  :redfaced: also told him that I wouldn't be back even if they offered me free service for life
told him that I really did think his   after sales after sales sevicewas great but it was the first attempt that I was worried about

I'm now going to try and make the driveway look ok-ish (have my doubts) lost the morning at work (self employed) so no hassle just lost earning which I can catch up later.

So do I just forget about it Knowing that its a main dealer and the service manager and I will never agree or we haven't up to now

Any opinions

Did you have to take it to the main dealer, to preserve the warranty? I've lost track, not sure if Block Exemption still applies and to what, I know its in transition 2010-2013 (I think, not sure, a 2009 on car/van still gets it though).

Anyway, do a Google search on "block exemption" and read around to see if you can take it somewhere else.

Basically, yes, main dealers don't really respect the vehicles they work on and problems like yours occur a lot. Hence why I've not been to one for a LONG time. To aid this, I'll carefully consider how easy (DIY friendly) a car is to service or repair, before purchase.

I would suggest they have failed to use "due care and dilligence, whilst carrying out the service" resulting in out of pocket costs inc lost wages and cleaning charges to the drive way.

I would also suggest that if you have the evidence to prove the above they have a liability and responsibilty to compensate you.

I would also mention Trading Standards, as to what pressure they could bring, I am not sure.

I have to say that this is shocking. Not acceptable by any standard. I would certainly be on the phone to vw uk to complain and would expect to receive some form of compensation/ gesture of goodwill.  But please bear in mind that this is an isolated incident, not the norm.  To say all main dealers are the same is wrong. Thats like saying all Mk1 owners are the same, and we are not! It all comes down to the individual who works on your car or van, and whether you go to a main dealer, or an independant specialist you are still likely to deal with the odd incompetant moron who doesnt know the difference between a spanner and his wife.

took the van to the main dealer purely because of the warranty (hopefully your link might point me in the right direction) the van is just 12 months old.

Chortle.
Not sure about "due care and dilligence" I'm not very good with words so I would say "dont give a monkeys tush" might be quite apt

Sorry to mislead you its not a VW   another example I left the service manual on the seat as requested they didn't even fill it in I had to take it back to the service desk
for it to be done :banghead:

Personally i wouldnt care if it was a main dealer or a back street garage…..a yeehaa'd job is just that regardless of where it went! Id moan, complain, kick up fuss, shed tears, throw stones and anything else i could do to embarrass the cowboys in front of other customers. I would tell them i expect compensation and see what they say…..what you gonna loose?? Youve already lost oil on your drive and half a days pay, 30 mins in a main dealer is nothing really

I've run a Ford (Fester) as daily driver for last 4 years and it's a case of nice car shame about the dealers. It really is hit and miss, the same Dealer group but different towns, one takes 3 attempts to mount a tyre the right way around(!) the other books in for service on a Saturday with just a few days notice, does the biz whilst me and Mrs Early wander round nearby retail outlet for an hour.

Yet another dealer didn't replace the under engine/sump cover but I didn't spot it until a week or so later so couldn't prove it was down to them.

Well took this matter up with Ford today Yes is the answer I can have my van serviced at ANY garage providing they give vat receipts and use ford parts etc which is fine by me :D
if any warranty work is required this has to be done at any main dealer this is also fine by me :D

To be fair the ford head office down south were very helpful and more than once offered to compensate me and also send someone to steam clean the drive etc I declined
both offers as to me it is more important to let the truth be known rather than brushed aside :D
