Bloody flies! I really hate flies. Maggots - eww.

Start a compost bin so you minimise the food for the flies to lay their eggs in (flies  don't hang around in a healthy compost bin). Of course, you can't add dairy, meat etc. to your compost (they will attract mice and rats), but you could use spare plastic bags to wrap up that sort of stuff before putting it in the bin. It gives the little fumes less chance to escape within the bin and might just stop attracting flies.

I wonder if spraying your bin with surface spray might help too. No idea, but seems worth a shot.

Don't waste food! Make less at mealtimes or eat more and then you wont be throwing it in the bin. Compost all veg peelings etc. No food waste = no maggots.

It's not the government or councils fault that you throw food away.

I am still on weekly collections, I feel for you if you only get one every two weeks, WTF is that all about! It's a f ing joke. I would be fuming if the council tried to do two week collections here. I hope they dropped your council tax! yeah right!!!!!!!!!

only advice i could think of is leave the bin somewhere thats in the shade all of the time if you can, so the sun don't heat the bin up.

Jokers! every two weeks! this country…

Stu i had same problems mate, but only after i got rid of the reminsance of BBQ in summer and the bin lid was left open a bit.

I TFR my bin every couple of weeks, make sure bags are tightly closed and always make sure lid is shut, havnt had maggots since.

is a pain in the arse though

If you have a bit of room, buy some chickens, feed leftovers to them, + £5 of layer pellets
per month and you get back about 150 eggs from 7 chickens every 4 weeks, can vary
but we normally get 4-5 per day, which would cost you £75 free range.

Ok if you like eggs n chickens, otherwise pour boiling water over the bin n boil the maggots  :x .
