Let?s have a MK1 series 3 golf!
Come on VW lets have another proper golf not a jelly mould MK5 effort! Ok so what if it?s technically brilliant and best in class , we want style and charisma (at least they are trying with the red stripe grill ).
Let?s have a MK1 series 3 golf!
I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday

BMW have raised the bar with the RWD 1 series. Fact. 8O
I think VW should bring out a new model and take the bull by the horns and make a car roughly the size of a MK1 golf (a Lupo derivative for example), give it 200bhp or so, a six speed box (even DSG if you must) and make it RWD. They would be on to a sure winner. 8)
Just cast your mind back legendary RWD cars of the 70's / 80's the RS2000….. the Capri…… ok bad example…. well you get my drift (oh the puns are coming out now I'll stop)
Such a car could be pitched at the Clio 182 / V6 and also BMW?s inevitable M version 1 series. (M1 has been done so I don't know what they will call it).
At chance anybody that works for VW take note or give me a job he he
Pretty soon the demise of the Golf is inevitable - it will end up the size of Mr_GTI?s artic

Remember the GTi brought performance to the masses mainly in terms of cost. The BMW 1-series is expensive and slow because it is RWD. Same as the Clio V6 compared to 182 Sport.
Does the Ibiza Cupra offer the nearest equivalent?

the original's have FAR more character than ANYTHING built today.. the only problem was rust proofing!
and if not the least they could do is reinstate discontinued parts!

I think car companie's should just re-release there original's with only updated version's of the original electrics, interior and engine (hmmm…maybe!)…. if that makes sense!
Not as simple as that. The complete body structure does meet the majority of customer's requirement for safety, etc.
Of course you can buy what you are looking for today - an imported SA Mk1. But it is expensive for what it is by the time import duty and shipping are accounted for.

OK MX5 is a good car, but in standard form it comes with non-extistent exhaust note and girly alloys - may be a Lotus Elise might do the trick 8) . What modern car has the spirit or character such as Mk1 GTI, Audi Quattro, BMW 2002 or 3.0, Lotus Elan, Escort MK1 mexico etc, etc ? Forget any manufacturer building an exciting mass production car again (safety regs and customer demand for a mobile armchairs have seen to that) stick with older cars  .

1. VX220 Turbo
2. Clio 182 (even though it is french)
2. Honda civic type R (even though it is to tall)
3. BMW 330d ( would love to chip one up )
3. Lotus Elise 111R (would be higher but not keen on the airfix looks)
4. Mazda RX8
4. Nissan 350Z
5. Caterham R500 (a little in practical but hey who cares)
5. Smart roadster (just to make up a top 5)
In that order with equal positions.

The dance routine looks like, it's been choreographed by Mr (I'm too ill to go to court) Jackson.
Not that I'm I dance expert but aren't most of his moves breakdance related and from the eighties?
Which makes the whole point of the advert null and void.

Apologies Dubboy you are totally right about VX220. Doesn't the Lotus Elise share the VX220 chassis? Seen both being driven hard on open roads, stick to the road like an F1 car . Think my choice would be Elise just beacuse its a Lotus, although heard VX220 is better finished car?
Yes they share the same fundamental aluminium bonded tub.
I would choose VX220 over the Lotus, especially used because:
- better performance for money
- airbag, brake servo and better trim level
- looks (IMO)
- rarer sight on the roads
The quality may be slightly better but not by much (VX compared with S2). As with any car generally the later the car you buy, the better the quality.
Next time you are in Bedfordshire then, but be quick as I won't have it much longer!
