las vegas road trip

Hello everyone. Going on a stag party to vegas next month. We have hired a couple of mustang convertables for a day and the stag wants to drive to the hoover damm and the grand canyon . He has tried to find out some info but hasnt been getting much joy. If any one has been and knows what sort of time scales this would take. With the grand canyon we want to get as near to the top as possible. Was also thinking about quad biking in the desert. cheers for any help

When I was there a few years ago the best place to was a town called flagstaff I think. Bt I would say your better off spending the night there otherwise that's one long ass day. Think it was about eight hours to get to that town

your not going to do that in a day, best way is to chip in for copter ride from vagas to canyon. we went couple of years ago theres a small town near canyon (1 hr) stay over night

Hoover dam in a day is easy but when I drove to the grand canyon and back (funnily enough in a mustang convertible) we only got to spend about an hour and a half there and it nearly killed me, it was about a six hour drive each way I seem to remember (but it was 9 years ago so times are a little fuzzy) it's well worth seeing both though. Also we went in February and there was still bits of snow near the canyon and it was rather cold

You HAVE to go to the strip!!!

I've never been, but I can't begin to imagine what the atmosphere's like.. 'Cos Americans are totally unhinged normally, when they've got flashy lights and potential for money to be won, it can only enlarge that.

Cheers for the info will probably do the canyon as the stag has done the helicopter before. Any other  ideas for places to go  would be appreicated.

We did grand canyon and back in a day last month with a stop at the Hoover dam bit we did not go into the belly of the dam. It took us about 5 hours to get there it is 275 miles to the southern part the most common place.  The west section has the skywalks only and is about 150 from Vegas.

The alternative is to go upto death valley we drove through death valley from LA an amazing place the roads are so easy to drive on over there just watch out for traffic cops.

We had a 2.5l new shape beetleit was ok massive dash.

we did a tour around in car and stopped over in aplace called williamstown, theres a train ride to canyon top complete with cowboys attacking the train. good fun for a stag perhaps he could be captured, also the cowboys do a bit of a show in williamstown. stayed in some good and cheap motels.

Its a 5-6 hour drive from Vegas over the Hoover dam to Kingman, then east along to Williams, then north to the South Rim.  There's a road that goes along part of the South Rim from there, with car parks along the way.  You'd be best off booking accommodation at South Rim.  The train from Williams is called the Grand Canyon Railway (surprisingly). Don't know when they are operating but they'll have a website.  Don't forget the change of Timezone between Nevada and Arizona….

Its about an hour in a car from Vegas to the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. We went on the best Stag Do ever and hired a Hummer from just off the Strip for the day, hired jetskis on Lake Mead for the afternoon and had a blast. Either that of hire a speedboat. You can get quite close to the Dam but get too close and the Police will shoot - and ask quesitons later!

I also say head out and find "The Gun Store" (about 15 mins from the Strip) for some testosterone Stag Do filled fun. You can pick any handgun or machine gun from the counter, buy a Bin Laden target for a dollar and fire away in a shooting range for an hour or 2. I love the Vegas! i bet you dont have the top down much. you'll want to leave it up and get the air con on. its so hot out there you'll feel like your in a fan assisted oven with the top down. we did a helicopter ride out to the canyon was class and the pilots are insane….. flying in the canyon dodging the cliff walls anyone!
