Just bin Done 4 No TAX

Yup 73 Quid, More than the TAX i bought ?60.

Here is the History. Bought the Golf 1.6 in June, it had no MOT/TAX, from a drug dealer. Sold the car to me for 200 Quid and gave me a older type of V5. It had no green slip with it. So i could`nt Tax it then.

Sent the older type of V5 off to DVLA as by LAW with my Details. In the mean time I MOT`d the car and got it insured.

Waited waited and waited for the new V5 cause i wanted to TAX it. I decided to ring DVLA and ask where the new V5 was. This was in the july.
They said the car was under investigation due to the former keepers, and the V5 I had sent them was`nt the latest. I asked when will it be sorted, they said weeks. I said great i want to use the car. Also i thought the car might have been stolen. Mind u i was waiting for 45 mins on the phone to get throu. TWICE!

I have done every thing at my end and broke no laws. Decided to drive the car with no TAX and if i got stopped it was`nt my fault i have no tax.

I did get stopped on the 1st of July. Reported for no road TAX. Found out from a copper it was`nt stolen.  heheheh

I recieved a new V5 on the 13th of July and taxed the car for 6 months, back dated to the 1st of july.

I gets a Letter today that i have commited an offence and have to pay ?73 to DVLA. Even tho i have paid back duty to the 1st of july, even tho DVLA with held the V5 from me.

And there is nothing i can do about it! says DVLA

I dont get lots of money due to being on the sick with a slipped disc, with kids and try to stay with in the law. I love my golf and to beat a man when your down. This is a country we live in! Ripping off sick sad Gits behind offices making money out of honest people.

PS. Cash collection bottle now welded on the bonnet!

Thought id share my MK1 golf experiences…with u guys n gals.

Sorry to hear that mate, don't know why they still back date tax because if your caught driving without valid tax on that day they can fine you, give you points, slap your rear harder than is really needed..

had my fair share of legal problems, not so long ago my insurance company I was with at the time cancelled my policy because they had not received my proof of no claims even after 4 telephone calls to them letting them know I was still waiting for it from the previous insurance company… got caught driving unknowingly without insurance.. 7 court appearances later and nearly ?1000 of solicitor's fees, the court decided I was innocent

unfortuanately the police etc. will almost always go out of they're way to get a conviction, even when they're wrong!   (no offense intended for any resident Mk1 owning Policeman/woman  :wink: )

You bought a car from a person you know to be indulging in criminal activities for ?200.

Just don't pay it, you've done everything possible to sort it out, it was the DVLA's fault for not sending you the ability to get your tax.

not really, no tax means your not legally 'on the road' and to be honest a  fine is getting off lightly.. at least you didn't get any points and it could have been alot more

if all you got was a fine I'd just pay it to be honest, either that or a few hundred pounds on a solicitor and even then you may end up paying it because if you don't pay it, it WILL end up in court…  :cry:

Pete i was saving a VW golf from destruction! and i kept badgering the guy to sell it to me. If i did`nt buy it then the coucil would of crushed a MK1 Golf.

it had not TAX or MOT, the driver did`nt have licence either.


TBH iam going to pay up just cant bothered with all the legal crap, but phil you know what iam saying, not really my fault was it.
Any case i will put it down to a right to owning a car.

Just another point, the car was out side parked for a month with NO tax either, waiting for V5 n MOT. So no matter where the car was or not it still had no tax and even if some body says, well should of been SORN then tell me how? And no i have no garage or place to put it in the mean time.

I think you did all you could, the DVLA should have pulled they're fingers out.. a few quid out of pocket but it's really not worth the hastle of fighting it, at least the Mk1 is being treated properly now  :wink:

Good Idea to pay up, They will only charge you more later, look on the bright side ?270 was still a good price for car judging by the picture

thank robb, yer did get the car cheap n that the enjoyment i get out of the cab will deff out weigh any fine. Got more to spend on it yet tho.

Was talkin to de3660 last nite, (weekly meet up in plymouth) kerbab included. Just saying the list of things to do on the cars. You see some nice examples out there, cant wait to get mine up to the same levels.

Ahhh that was the scorpion back box..lol. Bought it off de3660 nice back box and it was very loud. Gone back to the standard back box for the minute till i save up some cash and get powerflow to build me a nice silenced center box.

If ya bored one saturday nite, most week ends we sit in the guildhall/Plymouth car park stuffing our faces and watching drunk women and nice cars. A few friends from newquay/st austell come up and have a general chit chat. A very modded VW coraddo. seats, de3660 is usually out with his missus and MK1, and my car and lots of others. Would be nice to see another Cabrio there.
