Is it just me?

Is it just me or not, when looking through the classifieds I see a headline and think 'oh ill have a look at this' then find the seller aint put any pics up so I just click off the item and forget about it.

Surely people will get a better response if they post pics up straight away.

Saves having loads of posts of people asking for pics.

Rant over lol.

I do the same mate.  Not sure why but maybe they can't figure out how to put the pics up.  A lot of the ads come through from people with 10 posts or less… they obviously just want to throw an ad in alongside the other sites classifieds they're placing like e-bay etc. It would be interesting to see if they get any response at all… maybe that's how you find gems… by looking at ads other people dont  :dontknow:

Ditto, no pic not interested, buyers want to be able to see what is for sale, not just a couple of lines trying to describe the item.

There were a set of 17" ford alloys for sale that didnt have a pic. They had a start bid of 30. I thought 30 was worth a risk and I only wanted to sell them on anyway. I picked them up and they were great. I sold them a week later for 80

Definately some bargains to be had….  :D

on the other forum i visit (uk-mkivs.net) you have to have been a member for more than 3 months and have more than 100 posts before you can advertise in the classified.

i think it is a good balance between being a pain in the arse for fraudsters and allowing genuine people to post.

as for the original topic, no pics = no purchase for me

I used to go on uk-mkivs a lot a while ago, only problem with having a 100 post limit before you can use the classifieds is a lot of people will reply with pointless 1 word posts just to reach the 100 posts.

By doing that you can reach 100 in about half an hour.

On my build thread on there people just used to reply 'nice' and that was it.

So there not having any input withing the community.

All forums have their own sets of rules, we have in the past been accused of having too many and being a closed shop. Although this is not true some will always look to detract from the great work the members do to keep the MK1 Golf alive. As to the For Sale ads I don't see an issue! Frankly if you want to sell there's a better chance of success with a picture, this applies to all For Sale ads wherever they are!

As said before my advice would be not to be too dismissive about them anyway as bargains are to be had! Also regarding intelligent buying, if you can't collect and verify the goods before parting with money then only buy from members who are well established as trustworthy. Basic advice and common sense really but if you fall foul then it's down to you!
