I am looking to buy one..

So looking into buying an old golf gti. My mate has his mk1 which is almost done with a full restore and he will be selling to me. In the mean time, I quite like the look of the mk2s.

Just needed some advice really.. What do you guys think a mint mk2 gti 8v, 2 door with under 100k would be worth? The car has full service history and 3 previous owners. There is no dreaded rust!

Whats a good price to pay? I would be selling when I get hold of the mk1.

In this current climate I'd imagine a car that you've described has to be worth at least £2000.  Mk2 prices are soaring almost as much as mk1 prices at the mo.

If it genuinely is mint, and you'd be hard pushed to tell whether it is without pulling it to bits, then it could be worth a lot more! So you're taking a risk paying a lot for a supposedly mint example as you'll never know until you strip back all the underseal…


Do love mk2s though, would have one myself if I could afford another car
