How Wide is a MK1 golf?

HI All,

Bit of a silly question this, my internal garage is a bit on the small size so i was wondering if anyone could tell me how wide a mk1 golf is from wing mirror to wing mirror, also the length from bumper to bumper would help…

thanks in advance

chudd has answered the width one before i seem to remember.

he came up with some bonus fact that a GTI was 2cm wider than a non-GTI.

I'll have a search for that…

Cabriolet width specs are here…

Not sure how much of a difference there is between a cabby and a tin top though!  :?

Does that help at all?

Golf is 162 cm wide and my garage has 2m of width at its narrowest.. recon it will be hard getting out without moving the tumble dryer!

if you cannot get a mk1 into it, then it's called a shed.

was doing some nightime reading in the haynes, and i found the dimensions…

width:

Golf GTI= 1630mm (64.2 in)
Golf (carb.) = 1610mm (63.4 in)

Length= 3815mm (150.2 in)

I knew i would find it.  :D

excellent thanks..

Problem with my garage is the huge wardrobes down either side housing my diving kit, and the washing machine and boiler down the other side!

Building a huge double garage in a few months though so this is just temporary!

I think the 20mm difference might be due to, at the time, GTIs had internally adjustable mirrors and others had flag-style ones.

That's why, yes.  They dont count the mirrors when measuring the width.

i think thin mk1 is a little wider and wouldn't fit in most garages
