How long do the DVLA take???

To switch the owner of the car from one person to another?

I bought my Mk1 in June, and they still don't appear to think it's mine, despite me and the previous owner sending them all the relevant paperwork.

Anyone else had trouble with this? How long should this take?

Cheers

Rich

2-3 weeks max.

What did you send them?

The new owner should send of the main part of the V5 and you should get a new one, in the event of that not happening you can fill in a V62? and send it with your NEW KEEPERS part of the old V5, it will then take 2-3 weeks as the DVLA will contact the old owner to make sure they have passed on the car.

If you no longer have the New keepers supliment and no Recorded delivery number, then all you can do is fill in the V62 and pay ?19 for a new V5.

Thanks for the speedy reply… I will have to go and have a good look at the paperwork again.

Am I right in thinking that all I had to do, as the new owner, was sign the old V5 to say that I'd bought it? It's then up to the previous owner to send off the rest of it to the DVLA?

It's been a while since I bought it, and my memory is poor at best

Yes, normaly you don;t have to do anything but sign on the line.

If it goes Pete Tong then you send of the new keepers supliment ( by recorded mail )

Otherwise it's ?19 for a new V5.

Turnaround for me is usualy 7 days if the vendor sends it off same day.

I need to send off My V5C/2 as my Peugeot's document has not turned up.

if you want to check the last change of keeper then go to.

Hmmm… having found the paperwork, I have got to the bottom of the problem… Me!!!

Yes muggins here didn't read the instructions - I guess someone at the DVLA has one half of it (correctly filled in by the previous owner) and is still awaiting the other half (not yet filled in by me).

D'oh d'oh d'oh  :banghead: I'll post it off today and see what happens…

Thanks for everyone's help

Was this the old blue V5?

If so that should have been replaced by a new V5C ages ago, not sure the old V5 is still valid?

At least you have some documentation.

It's sort of blue - it's from 1989 so it's almost certainly out of date.

I'll post it off and see what happens I guess.

Hi I recently had a few problems with mine too as the car was out of tax when I bought it and was not declared sorn. So I didn't want to end up getting a fine once I was the new owner. You can email the DVLA who are very helpful and respond within a couple of days as their telephone system is completely automated so you can speak to anyone. I finally got my new V5 through the post today having posted it two weeks ago. They have all the necessary forms online to download if you need too!
Hope you get things sorted!

Nice one  8) - cheers Jordster - I'm in exactly the same position as you.

I don't suppose you've got the e-mail address you used to hand, have you?

That would be very much appreciated

Cheers

yeh I will check when I'm in the office next week and forward it - it took a lot of stress off me and also is then proof should anything happen as you have a record showing you've been trying to sort it out. I'll be in the office next thursday so will forward it then for you.

Hi Rich,
I found the email address for the DVLA it's vehicles.dvla@gtnet.gov.uk . They responded to all my queries withing 3 days. I got my new V5 through last week and a letter a day later confirming the car was declared as SORN. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks again Jordster - the DVLA also got back to me within 3 days - in fact it took them less than 24 hours :y:

Looks like it could be all sorted within 6 weeks, which will be the time it takes for them to check I'm the legal owner, and shuffle some paperwork…

I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway :)

They probably need to be sure that I'm not going to use it for terrorist purposes! Or something like that

No to be fair the service so far has been extremely good, especially for a government run department. I was really impressed!

I will keep everyone posted when I hear more…
