Highway Insurance - a sad tale

This has been appearing on many other car enthusiast forums, there is a lot of ill feeling about how they've mistreated this particular customer. Worth a read:

Sounds like a right con! If he had all the mods declared, and wasn't racing at the time, I don't see how they should be able to get out of it!

Sounds about right if you ask me, he is a BR no doubt and has probly got more bling on his car than worn by Jimmy Savile. They bring it on themselves realy in my opinion, as much of a shame it is that he has not had a pay out and that it was unfortunate his car caught fire, these people go on about how they raced this, that and the other all the time on forums and seem to forget that the police and people other than fellow BR's read it, and in a way make a rod for their own backs with some of the things they say.

And at the end of the day, what insurance company ever just pays up, they always try and get out of it.

In summary, they tried to fob him off three times before realising that they didn't have a leg to stand on and eventually paid up. They made him out to be a fraudster at first, due to a vague line of questioning relating to where he was going (Santa Pod) and their 'engineers' report was thoroughly discredited by another independent one. They also said that because the fuel line failure was a mechanical failure, he wasn't covered, although he wasn't claiming mechanical failure, it was the subsequent fire which destroyed the car and formed the basis of the claim.

Just read through every thread and I'm astonished!  (and exhausted).
I clicked the links to check the share prices and you can see the drop when the thread started picking up steam.  It just goes to show the power of the internet.

True, it was only a Mazda and he probably was a boy racer but I'd hope that if any user on this forum had a similar problem, they'd get the same support.

Yeah, it took me around an hour to read it too, although you can skim and look out for the main guy's posts (look for his icon thing). A lot of it is support from other car clubs. So I thought we should lend our support too.
